The jet black presence of what could be an anvil stands in contrast to the much lighter areas. While the anvil is made of cast iron, the other objects - walls, walkway, and dirt area with pebbles - lack its core strength. Therein lies its potential for menace; its not actually menacing unless it's used for some harmful purpose. A most powerful image, Jack.

Well I can see why it was a POTD. Simple composition - yet with many lines, angles and all a recipe from our Concrete Jungle. Bravo Jack !

Tatiana, Michael, Gail - Thanks for your comments on this picture. I've been away on vacation the last week so I was surprised to find out that this picture had been chosen as POD, especially since it got almost no interest when I first posted it. Strange how things work out.

Franz, Holger - I inadvertantly left you guys out when I thanked the others but I do appreciate your comments. I'm just getting back to work after a week in Rome (my first time to Europe) so you can expect to see some Italian shots soon.
