I joked with the waiter/host at this little restaurant beside the Basilica di San Marco in Venice that he should pay me for advertising his place. We were seated outside and I had ordered spaghetti fruitti di Mare sometimes called spaghetti allo scoglio – basically a fresh seafood pasta. It is usually the most expensive dish in an Italian restaurant. Seems most everyone who passed our table had to steal a look (some even gawked) at my dish. For a seafood lover like me the prize is a plate full of clams (vongole), mussels (cozze), prawns (scampi), crawfish (gamberoni) and squid (calamari) baptized in pasta, olive oil, garlic, chopped parsley, basil and tomato sauce. When I occasionally came to my senses and looked up from my feast I made images of this amazing place they call Venice.

Many thanks Patsy and Jack for appreciating this image. I am beginning to recognize it as emblematic of one of my character flaws that I find it difficult to take credit for some of my photographs, particularly those I consider very good images. I question whether I saw the potential when first composing the image and only after beginning to process that I realize how blessed I was that the forms defined and arranged themselves in pleasing ways and that light and hues did their dance before my lens with no help from me.

Truly like a painting, well done! Even the title reminds me of oil paintings from Italy from the 1800-1900 era?

Gorgeous painting!! The lighting is terrific. After I read “the menu” I drooled on your work! Lucky there was a glass screen in between!!

Hello Wayne:

As I cannot for - time's sake - comment on most every photo of yours, I once again compliment you for this most exquisite photograph. You have somehow mastered this special technique, and all of the images you have presented, I look at, relish upon them and consider your work very creative and utterly original. Consider therefore, these comments applicable to most -if not all- of your recent images using this highly artistic technique. Great work indeed. DG

Many thanks, Daniel. Praise from one of the most accomplished and creative artist on the site makes me reach for a larger hat. I admit there are many of your works I admire but fail to comment on simply because artistic virtuosity is often too hard to describe. What is most admirable is that even when the “community” doesn’t appear to acknowledge some of your work you are not discouraged from continuing to put out these masterpieces. I, on the other hand, find I need encouragement. Thanks again.

The lighting here creates such a soft & gentle scene. It is a delightful image.

Makes you want to be there sitting outside at that little place on the left... Sounds like you not only captured a lovely image, but had a monumental dinner as well!!! -Aina
