There is a favorite spot for Photographers not too far from where I

live. This small town is called Burleigh Falls. It is situated on a small

strip of land between Burleigh Bay and Lovesick Lake. There are

many small Islands near the Falls ( just to the North West of this

small island) that are enjoyed by boaters, swimmers and fishermen

during the summer. Because the waterway is dotted with

submerged rocks, Lock 28 was built to the Northwest(190mm in

length and completed in 1887) to allow boat traffic to bypass the

Falls. The water level is determined by the amount of water allowed

to flow from Lovesick Lake through a Dam that is further West of the

Falls. On this particular day, I was delighted to see that the water

was flowing well, allowing me a wonderful display of it's sheer power.

I will post a few shots of the Falls as well.

It looks like a wonderful location and the colours on the small island are really beautiful.   You can always experiment with shutter speeds and apertures and of course a visit late in the day will always allow some extended exposure time, but I like this just as it is!

Best Regards

Alf

Advice from you is ALWAYS appreciated.  I know it will take me awhile to really explore all there is to experiment with in LANDSCAPE.  It was about 4 in the afternoon when I took this shot.  The sun was very bright that day. Jim helped me climb among the many rocks to get closer to the Falls that you will see in other postings.  There I have to adjust for shadows and sunlight.  Thank you so much for your advice and for dropping by :) One day I would like to get a better Landscape lens, but not enough in the Piggy Bank for that just yet !!  Hope you have a great weekend my friend!

Gail,

This is a nice POV, has good colors, and I see lot of details of the rocks in the larger view.  Sky seems a bit blown out but I think that is because of the bright overhead sun.  Would love to see what this looks like at sunrise or sunset.  Good shot, though and I like it.

This was my first time really exploring the rocks. I did not bring a Tripod - at first I was so excited because it was so beautiful here that I didn't even think about changing the Aperture.  I think that would have helped a bit. It was a very bright day - Perhaps even a UV Filter would have helped a bit. Perhaps next Fall I will make the opportunity to be here at different times of the day - thanks so much for the advice Bill :)

Hi Gail, Great autumn colors on the island. The write up is good, let's us know what and where this water is going. This is a nice pov, and I can't wait to see some of the waterfall shots.

Best Always, Holger

Just gorgeous! I love October and early November in the Northern USA and Canada for outdoor landscape photography. The colors can't be beat. The air isn't hazy because the humidity is gone and that helps to make the light and colors just delicious!! Nice spot (with or without a camera!!)

Splendid location and a very good subject indeed.I think Alf has right that a different day moment with low light or maybe some clouds can give some other view for same subject. Is a corner to be caught each season for sure,

sincerely radu

These autumn trees ... I love them! I live in a place where the seasons are not pronounced, and I always like to see the trees in autumn colors. A beautiful place Gail. I hope to see photos of the falls too!

Kind Regards,

Rosario.

I know you've been to Canada and especially Old Quebec - nothing finer from what I have heard.  We wanted to go to Old Quebec this Fall but were not able to get away - sure hope we can go next Fall. Thanks so much for your encouraging words Warren ! You are so right about the Humidity being gone ! Made a difference for taking images - while the sun was bright and very few clouds in the sky, I did get some more shots in shadowed areas. Appreciate your input so much Warren!

Hello!  You live in such a beautiful place that I don't think of you not seeing Fall Colours.  Yes they are lovely.  Thank you for stopping by Rosario. I must get over and visit and see if you have some more of your beautiful sunsets.

I must have been sleeping when you posted this little beauty. You've been kind of scarce around these parts lately, Gail so it's nice to see some new work from you.

Yes I have been busy Jack. I did post a couple other shots before this. But I have a lot of images to catch up on.  It is a very busy time of year but I am glad I will have these images to work on when it is cold and snowy.  I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I hope to get over and visit you - YOU  have been very busy!

As rosario we don't have much season change , however, November is gorgeous as the Sun is less bright and the weather is fresh, a real joy to walk and see the colors of the Vongavillas in full bloom! This image is adorable with the beautiful colors of the trees and the fantastic power of the water, I love the soft blue of the sky and the beautiful evergreens! Always a pleasure to read your explanations my friend.

Warm regards from warm Miami we had 81 during mid day and 70 during the evening

Take good care.

Always wonderful to read your comments Jorge.  By November 22nd, it was much colder here and we just had about 7" of snow!! so your 81 degrees sounds so welcoming to me!!  While you do not have extremes of Seasonal Changes, it is good to know that you do have some time of relief from the heat that I know when combined with the humidity can be very oppressive! Thank you for those kind words - you always make me smile after I read your comments - not because they are positive - but because it was you who visited!!
