Hi Gail. It is not common to see one of your pictures in black and white. There are many things I like about it: the square format is perfect here, the composition is beautiful, the play of light and shadows is interesting, and of course the almost imperceptible texture application.

So strange to see a flower picture from you in black and white but very effective with its emphasis on form and tone. Very nice to see you back again, Gail.

thank you for sharing your thoughts on this image.  Doing flowers in black and white I find is very challenging.  Well to be honest, all black and white is challenging for me. But I enjoyed the time I took with this one. If nothing else, I never get bored learning new skills - no matter how long it takes  to come close to something acceptable. I like the tone too.  The bottom half and top right quadrant are very warm.  Do you live by this water lilly? 

Actually I got this shot at one of my favorite Garden Centres. They sell Water plants but not a wide variety.

I like the results of your experimentation! Black and white works well here!

I agree the composition is perfect as are the tones Gail, of course the other part of me is curious to see the color version. Experimenting is always good and can even be fun, especially with your pp skills.

thanks for your thoughts shared Holger. I may do the colour as well. I have always liked flowers in colour, but I wanted to challenge myself - thought perhaps it would get me 'working' again :)
