My husband took this, but I take partial credit because I bought him the

camera. :-) Seriously, I've been teaching him a bit about photography. I love

this shot he took!

Way to go N!! An impressive image, clear and sharp.  Watch out Christal, you have serious competition for photo time ;-).  Excellent work N... Mike

Christal,

Love this shot.  It is tack-sharp and the larger view shows excellent detail.  Well done.  But, just a small nit....wish I could see exif data.

Mike.....haha!  Alf said the very same thing about this image!  I don't think Norm will ever reach my level of passion for photography, but he has some talent for sure.  Thing is, he doesn't like sitting and editing.....and I don't either.....so we'll see how many of his shots I end up editing.  Thanks, Mike!

Bill.....DRAT!!!  I can't figure it out.  I'm not saving to the web.....I'm using full size jpegs.  And I can't even figure out how to cut and paste the metadata.  Do you use Lightroom?  There is a column on the right side with all of the info, but I can't figure out how to copy it.  Maybe someone else will chime in about that.  And if all else fails, I'll ask in my alumni Facebook page from the school I went to.  Maybe they can help me figure it out.  At any rate, I'm glad you like it!

Christal...

I do use Lightroom for all my processing.  However, after processing in Lightroom I export a full size jpeg to Photoshop Elements to resize for the web.  I use Save As and then upload to PN, email, etc.

i know in photoshop you can save to the web which is what I do...it will change the color space to srgb which is what you'll see on the web...if you're image is in a different color space, it could shift colors when you upload...i'm not as well versed in this but you might want to take a look at the color space you image is in and convert it to srbg if it's going to the web...use the highest jpeg quality size when saving if you are not saving for the web...regards....David

Christal,

This is a nice clear shot of the moon. I would be interested in knowing what lens and what camera was used.

As far as exif info, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, that info is automatically attached to the image in the camera, hence, what you see in LR on the side.  I do not use (or like) LR, but I assume there is somewhere a preferences option, as in everything adobe, where  something allows you to either keep exif data or remove it from final image.  You don't need to copy and place it anywhere, just allow it to remain. Maybe someone who usesLR could tell you exactly where that is.

One thing that could  improve this image is to use blur tool to smooth out the noise in the bg- just for looks.

I feel quite privileged to have had a sneak preview of this one : - )

The level of detail is excellent and it's a really great first posting for Norm!

From reading above I know neither of you relish the thought of  spending hours processing, and I must admit it's not my favourite part of photography either. But a few touches can pay dividends and the more knowledge one acquires can equate to less time achieving the  results you want.

I hope you don't mind,  I spent 2 minutes turning this to B & W and lowering the mid tone light levels. Not better than the original but different and perhaps illustrating more the detail that is already there.

I look forward to seeing more from Norm, now he has the bug there will be no stopping him!

Best Regards

Alf

Mike.....no comment!  ;-)   You may be right! :-)

Bill.....okay, I may have figured it out.  Stay tuned!

David.  I do save to the largest jpeg possible.  But I can save to a different color profile and see if that makes a difference.  Tho' I think I may have solved the problem.  I'll post another image tonight and try out my theory.  Thanks, David!

Gregory and Verena,  First of all, I didn't see the noise on my small computer screen, so thanks for that observation.    I'm curious what editing program you use.  I use LR because that's what we were required to use at photo school last summer.  I like it for organizing.....way better than what I was using before.  Not to say I couldn't get my arm twisted to try something else though!  :-)

This camera is one of the Super Zooms, Canon SX50.....focal range 24-1200mm.  http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx50-hs

My husband is not as passionate about photography as I am, and he would never mess with changing out lenses and carrying around heavy equipment.  So I bought him this camera, and I'm actually amazed at the quality of pictures he's getting with it.  And I think it's adding to his enjoyment of photography.

Okay, here is the Exif info:  1/320 second, f 6.5, 215mm, ISO 400, no flash

     Thanks for your comment!

Alf, hey, Norm loves it.....so do I!  Thanks!  I do think it reveals more detail.  Not sure about Norm 'catching the bug' though.  He enjoys it but doesn't even consider going out solely for taking pictures the way I like to do.  Wish you lived here.....you'd make a great photo buddy!  Thanks, Alf!

Christal,

This is amazing for a p+s!

Anyway, the exif info works, as you know by now. I just use PS 5 (I balk at paying monthly -maybe eventually) I do use a couple of plug ins that attach to PS for sharpening, as far as organizing - not known for that :) ask Verena- but every year in the winter or sooner if I have time, I sort out my pics that are sorted automatically in  My Pictures, by month, into sub folders I create, like ,

flowers, then sub folders of each variety, or friends or wildlife, insects, fall, Thanksgiving (plus year) etc. There are a lot of them, but windows sorts them alphabetically and I can view each folder however I like, by date taken, file number or whatever. I have over 10k photos saved, going back over a decade, so this seems to work for me.

It also seems that camera raw in Bridge does almost everything LR does if needed.

Hope that makes sense.

Gregory....thanks for describing your work flow and editing programs.  It sounds like you have a system that works for you, and that's the important thing!  You do great work, so 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.  :-)

Thanks for your suggestion about this camera.  I was considering a couple of different ones.  Then one day I went out shooting with someone who was using this camera, and I was so jealous that she could get shots of wildlife that I couldn't begin to get.  And for the price, we thought it was worth the investment.  So far we've been really happy with hit.

Fabulous detail obtained with this camera Christal!! Your husband must be very pleased with this shot!!  I use CS6 and save to the Web, but my Metadata is never included when I load an image. I have never been able to figure it out. Because of your question I have been searching it on the Internet to see if there are boxes I have to check off in my Editing Program so the Metadata will be included but have not found it yet. Will let you know if I do come across it!!!

I usually save from Lightroom rather than Photoshop, but there indeed was a box to check to include the Metadata.  I hope you can find it.  It's so helpful.  I always love reading the stats on other images because I learn so much from them.  Yes, by all means let me know if you figure it out.  Wish I could help, but I'm pretty clueless with the computer stuff.  :-)
