This is another image taken last summer. I was at one of my favorite

Garden Centres on a very bright, hot and humid day. Fortunately, the

tent roof they have over the Greenhouse area gives subtle relief from

the sweltering sun. I spotted this wasp among the Peonies.

Thankfully it was too busy drinking some tasty nectar to be bothered

with me. (visits are always welcome, many thanks, Gail)

man thanks Jim. It took me a bit to get this capture. I often try to find an object I can lean against when taking images of insects that are lower than I. My knees are pretty worn out, so I try not to abuse them anymore!

Gail, this is a very good macro shot.  Interesting subject matter, pleasing colors, and good sharpness.  Good work.

Great shot! I see the wasp beat the army of ants that ALWAYS run rampant among peonies!! I had loads of peonies in my backyard until Superstorm Sandy made short work of them! Oh well. Easy come, easy go!!

Looks like a climber, nice green contrast for main subject.I think is a flower bud from last summer not so warm for this now in your area.We had here an explosion of spring flowers, but I am afraid that because is more than one month earlier as usual is possible to have a cold time any day and will be not at all good.

my best regards to you

Perfect background for this beautiful image. I can't tell if it's a macro of a flower, an insect or of both of them.

The spike from the flower is a clear optical reference mark for the hidden sting of the whasp.

Bravo, keep shooting!!

I like your pinpoint focus and lovely soft surround.

I always thought of wasps a nuisance serving no purpose whatsoever, except for stinging people and terrorising innocent ice cream eaters but I occidentally come across n article where it described wasps as one of the major contributors to the discovery of paper! (Papyrus)

Now I have found they have another use...........as an excellent subject for your camera and very sharp eye!

Compliments & Best Regards

Hi, Gail! Very well done with clarity ! Cannot wait to see these guys ! Was out today - no life yet: everything is hiding still. Just birds were rehearsing. Happy spring coming to you. Warm regards, Tamara

Yes it is warming up, but it is good it isn't happening too quickly. If that happened the rivers would overflow because of the snowmelt, so I guess we have to be patient :( But that's okay.

I hope you enjoyed the sunshine today Tamara.

I will have to look that up - wasps and Papyrus!!! I do not like to get too near to them. One time when we were camping, one was on the roof of our tent, it had a bug in its 'hands/pinchers' and I could see it 'munching' on the bug'!!! I never really knew they did that - freaked me out, was afraid they could also bite us!!' They must be good for pollination as are many other bugs. Thanks for stopping by Alf, nice to hear from you,

kind regards,Gail

I always have lots of ants on my Peonies at home. Perhaps these ones at the garden centres were not there long enough for the ants to 'attack'!!! Many thanks for your visit. Hopefully your garden this year will fare so much better!!!

This image is from last summer. It is a Peony, and they do not climb, but the plants can get very tall. They have such beautiful flowers on them. I do not know how my plants have fared, the snow is just really started to melt. Thanks so much for your visit!
