This particular golden finch seemed proud of its markings and kept

turning its back to me and looking around as if to see if I was

looking. Comments and critique appreciated.

Hi Wayne, I am posting at your urging, hoping others will learn, yet I may learn as well as there could be other ways of doing this. I am not sure myself if the Purple colours at the bottom and on side of the bird in places are Chromatic Ab. or something else. But I thought the image may look better if you tried to reduce the Blue in the Hue and Saturations Sliders. It should work, sometimes you have to do it twice. The only concern I had was the background. I figure you could crop the bird from the frame, adjust the Blues, then go back to the Original image and go to FILE>PLACE and insert your Adjusted Bird. If you have a problem with the Background ending up with a 'mottled appearance', you may be able to Duplicate your Layer, run the Radial Blur Tool on Full Zoom, then erase the Blur on the Bird at 100% Opacity, then do it at a lower Opacity around the Edges of the Bird. This sounds like a lot of work. Imagine someone can suggest something better. I really like the image, the Finch is so cute. Another thought for the Background would be to Place a Texture over the Bird, Choose which Blending mode is most suitable, then ERASE the Texture from the area where the Bird is. (If you ever want to learn how to do this, just let me know). I have probably complicated this far too much.

Such a beautiful little bird. I never have much luck at capturing them. At least the ones I have seen in Ontario, they rarely sit for long!!! Please don't think I am tearing your image apart, because I am not, just trying to figure out a way to reduce the purple. Cheers for now, Gail

After all of that technical advice, I have little else to add except that I find the image to be beautiful.

Gail,

Thanks.  I see the coloration you mention.  Your explanation as to how to deal with this is excellent.  I think it does stem from chromatic aberration which this lens is prone.  I think now I probably didn't address the problem because I was fascinated with all the colors of this image and did not give appropriate attention to how logical or illogical they were.  As always your comments are helpful, encouraging and educational.  Thanks you for taking the time to comment.  It is most appreciated.

Ruud,

Thanks.  I think this lens finally allows me some detail (along with my ten ton tripod).  Just kidding...a little bit.

Gail has given some invaluable editing advise there, but I think I got lost somewhere between the radial blur and the file place : - )

What I like about the shot is the "over the shoulder" pose of the bird, and you still managed to get it sharp at the eye!

Very well done Wayne!
