About 3 weeks before my wife asked me at a flea market had I seen the

german shepherd puppies for sale, I had a dream about playing with two

“golden” german shepherds. I am pretty good at interpreting my dreams

but this one eluded me. My wife who is not a big dog lover was drawn

to a long hair male puppy and he to her. But having just lost our dog

about two years prior, we both decided it was too early for another

dog. Not able to get that beautiful puppy out of my head, I sneaked

back to the flea market just in time to catch the breeder and her

daughters packing-up to leave. I was thrilled they had not sold the

puppy I wanted. As I was about to leave, the other long hair female

of the litter started a ruckus and would only calm-down when I came

near with my puppy. She obviously did not want to be separated from

her “brother”, so I bought her too. I thought it was going to be

difficult explaining to my wife that we now had two german shepherds,

but she fell in love with them. Sasha, the female in front, has since

passed away, but the regal male, Sonjay, is still the rambunctious,

playful, king of our household. It has truly been a gift greater

than gold to have these “family members” in our life.

What beautiful looking animals!

Sasha has very similar colourings and markings to one of our late departed dogs "Max" he was a huge male, and his very size used to scare people, though he was the gentlest of creatures.

I wonder if Sonjay misses Sasha.........I guess he must do at times.

It's a lovely photo full of nostalgia and good memories for you, but it has stirred some in me as well!

Best Regards

Alf

Radu,

Thanks.  A PN member suggested that I should share images of these dogs and  I thought it might be good to share the story of how these shepherds came into my life.

Patsy,

Thanks.  For some time my wife and I thought because we loved them so much is why we saw them as so beautiful.  But soon realized that people would stop their cars and get out to greet these dogs every time we took them for a walk.  And oh how they loved the attention.  They love people but don't get along with other animals.

Alf,

Thanks.  I was surprised.  Sonjay grieved for about two days.  Then it was like he was happy he was getting all the attention.  When it comes to people Sasha was a Sonjay is a very gentle dog, but his bark would scare the pants off you.

Holger,

Thanks.  You are right.  I didn't realize while writing the narrative that the story of this blessing is both about sadness and inspiration.  I think we have learned to focus on the inspiration part.

Maurizio,

Thanks.  They were a team.  Too smart to train.  While your attention was on one the other would get into mischief.  They would take turns.

Luisa,

Thanks very much.  Sad but a beautiful experience to have them both. They were inseparable - really inseparable.  Sonjay seemed to be OK after losing Sasha.  I guess because he now gets all the love.

I think it must be a wonderful experience to have 2 dogs at one time, especially siblings. Nothing can compare with the Unconditional Love you share with your dogs. I am sure Sasha enriched your lives beyond measure. I am glad that you at least still have your 'king'. Lovely image and story Wayne.

Gail,

Thanks.  I think now it is best to have two siblings at the same time.  They care for each other, look out for each other and team up on their owner.  But what fun.
