Yes I agree, fog can be a great element in a photograph, it can add so much atmosphere and depth.

Here though I think you needed less of the road in the composition. 

Possibly a better composition or even subject matter would have been the pine trees to the right. 

Try to include a closer or more well defined subject in the foreground and allow the background to gradually fade adding depth to the scene. 

If the farmhouse was your chosen subject here, it may have been better to get closer to the scene and used the fence on the left as a leading line where the gradual diminishing visibility could be observed.

I do like your idea Jennifer and hope that the above will help in the future.
