This was the kind of view we had from our holiday apartment (though

this photo was taken a few miles up the coast) some wonderful

sunrises on the East coast. Bamburgh Castle is directly behind me,

but it was difficult getting it in the frame so in this shot I decided to let

the sunrise take centre stage. Your thoughts and comments are

always appreciated. Thank You.

What a great spectacle of colours! For how long did you have to wait for that to happen? And as always the best title :) Warm regards, Tamara

One day I will see such a sunrise Alf. Glorious! A view that would take my breath away. I hope you continued to have wonderful weather during your week.

Hi Alf,  Well, sun of a beach.  What is striking to me in this image, are the three different directional lines: vertical water on the sand, horizontal lines of waves, and the angled lines of the clouds.  This along with nature's dawn colors and light creates a most interesting image.  What do you think about the level of sharpness or noise in the image?  It looks as if it might benefit from beeing a titch sharper, but maybe that would negate the effect that you are creating?  Just a question, not a judgement.  Thanks for your comment on my Mt. Washington image.  Larry

Yes, it always pays to turn around from time to time.  I really like the foreground here....the patterns and colors are wonderful.  Very nicely composed as well; the split between sea and sky fills the frame and is very pleasing to the eye.

Indeed this play of light, shadows colors in an excellent location makes this image so pleasantly, just to admire  and feel good.

Hi Alf, What a lovely wide angle shot. It's all about the light and whats great about this is you don't see the source light just its dazzling effect. I really like the sky. Nice one Alf.

Wise choice . . . nature always seems to trump human-made objects!  The appearance of the ripples in the sand makes one wonder whether someone came along before sunrise and raked them into a pattern to gently coax the water onto the shore.

Simply beautify . . . nothing else to say.

My best always,

michael

Well for once I didn't have to wait very long at all. This part of the beach was a few miles up the coast from where we were staying and I got up at 5..30 am to ensure I got there for dawn. It was still dark when I left the apartment, but I could see the beginnings of some colour in the sky.

I arrived just as the light was breaking and the colours in the sky were surreal. I was also fortunate that it coincided with the receding tide so there were great big area's of wet sand.

My original objective was to take photographs of the impressive castle (situated right behind me when taking this shot) but I was really torn between the sunrise and the castle. I did manage to get a couple with the very wide angle 14 - 24 mm Nikkor lens that included both castle and at least some of the sky colours.

Glad you appreciated the title too : - )

Sincere Thanks & Warm Regards

Nature did it all for me, although the title was the product of my warped mind : - )

Many Thanks!

I only saw one other person about 20 minutes after I arrived, a man walking his dog. The beach is vast, great flat areas of sand, such an exquisite place to walk and just breath the air.

The sunrise was spectacular though and probably the best one of the holiday, although there were others that were very beautiful too.

The weather was kind also, we had one morning of rain for the whole week and of course it wasn't raining in the pub : - )

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Many Thanks  for your thoughts and observations, much appreciated!

The myriad of lines and reflections were instrumental in my choosing this particular composition.  It's probably not the sharpest of images at first glance and indeed may not be at all, but I'm not sure if that is because I have used very little contrast.

The reason being is that the colours already look somewhat surreal (which is how they looked to my eyes) when I tried adding contrast they looked positively gaudy.

Interesting though because I looked at the RAW files and I found a version that looked sharper.

Nothing much there that concerns me in relation to noise though.

Cheers Larry!

I sometimes think I didn't see the world at all before I looked at it through a camera viewfinder.

But yes, you are quite right it pays to look all around.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback!

Glad you appreciated the title too : - )

It was good just to be there and see it, the photographs were a bonus!

I always think the best colours are produced when the sun itself is below the horizon at either sunrise in this case or indeed after sunset. In this case I was aided by the bank of thick dark cloud on the horizon.

Glad you liked this one Holger!

Sincere Thanks

Mother Nature was always the best artist, all we do is try to emulate her.

I have to admit I got quite excited when I saw the colours emerging.

I actually restrained the colour, it just didn't look real.

I couldn't agree more! There are very few man made structures that can surpass nature in terms of beauty, though it seems to me that the older a building gets the more in tune with nature it becomes.

The Castle at Bamburgh is a most impressive structure, its huge! And its setting alongside the sea is magnificent. But as you indicated nature always prevails!

I quite like the idea of people raking the beach into patterns to entice the sea ............ that would make some inroads to solving the unemployment problem too :- )

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and observations Michael.

It was a vivid dawn sky, but I was helped a lot by the low bank of dark cloud that eliminated the harshest of the suns light.

As always, I seem to arrive later than fashionable for your parties.  These colors are spectacular but your selection of leading lines make it special...  Mike

Obviously the cloud and reflection colors are wonderful!  I really like the right side sand but find the left to be too dark and uninteresting.  As Larry mentioned, the sky seems grainy to me too. Also, in the upper left about 1/6 down and 1/8 across there are two short horizontal lines that appear to be dirt on the sensor.  Did you use a polarizer on this?  Regards, Jeff

JEFF

Many Thanks  for your thoughts and keen observations!

I looked at the RAW file at the marks that you thought could be dirt on the sensor,  and they appear as two small rectangles. I am at a loss to explain what they are as they don't appear in any other photo taken either before or after this one, suffice to say they are not dirt on the sensor. I can't even imagine it was a speck on the lens.

The image was naturally darker at the left foreground corner as the light was was coming from the opposite direction. It could no doubt reveal more detail in Adobe Lightroom and of course the noise could be cleaned up too.

I did not use a polariser, they can be useful but I find that the patchy discolouration they sometimes produce can be a real nightmare to get rid of.

Cheers Jeff

Well, the wife wasn't with me on this particular morning so it couldn't have been a broomstick  (good job she doesn't read this web site)

I did actually think it might be seagulls or birds at first ....but I captured birds at the same shutter speed 1/ 8 second later on and  errm welll.....they looked just like birds lol

Yeah UFO's ...must have been!

the colour does look good.  i was referring to the self-indulgent composition, whatever that means.  epd
