Low, dark, and constantly changing fog and clouds hung over the White

River flowing from the flanks of Mt. Rainier, and I stood above on a very

small wide spot on the road's shoulder watching it all unfold for nearly 30

minutes. It was the best moment of my 8-hour trip back to home in

eastern Washington. Your comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think this could be one of those occasions when you can experience an amazing scene, but its almost impossible to capture the full effect simply because of the conditions themselves combine to try hide it.  But you have managed to communicate at least some of the magic that you experienced, and the touches of lighter vegetation, the mist and the river rapids make for a mesmerising scene.  You have displayed good timing and great patience to wait for an opening in the mist.

Compliments!

Exquisite reality with wonderful detail in the trees, great mood with the clouds and the yellow trees are dessert...  Mike

When fog is present like this, the scene can drastically change within seconds.  Your timing is perfect with the fog positioned just right....just hovering above that fantastic tree line.  This is a beautiful scene, expertly captured.

Nice lines of the river, mystery fog scattered around, and the autumn color of the trees, all in place.  Best Regards,

Stephen,  This is fabulous.  The fog, exposure - which although on the dark side has excellent detail - color, and perspective are "right on." And, the jagged shaped water stream adds much interest.  I really like this one.  Best to you. Larry

Robert, Alf, Mike, Christal, Wanghan, and Larry, thanks so much for your comments.  Mike's right -- dessert was available this time in the form of autumn color, and that's probably the main reason I made some photographs.  Low fog like this changes very rapidly, as Christal said; I have several other shots, but eventually felt that the bright fog had to be minimized somewhat so as to not overwhelm the photo.  If the fog hadn't been present, Rainier can be seen, although it's hard to avoid a lot of sky if the river as well as the mountain are both in the frame.  This spot is just a few miles down the road from where this other photograph was taken; it may give you a sense of what the fog was hiding.

Hi Stephen-This is the first braided river I have seen in years, have always found it fascinating all the different twists & turns. & meandering the river takes in it' journey downstream. The fine mist adds nice touch to your well composed slice of nature. Best Regards-Ross

Jim and Ross, thanks for your comments.  It's not often I get to see a river like this, especially from an elevated overlook.

The small image don't give a justice to the Hassy. I can imagine the detail and sharpness in a big print. I just printing some of my B&W images and surprised, how sharper and detailed the image in print, as on the 24" LaCie monitor.

Wish you a good health and happiness.
