Good W/A landscape with excellent foreground detail. Blank sky detracts a bit, but there was nothing you could do about that.

The light on the hillsides is great, and nice exposure all around.  The only thing to do with some blank skies is to minimize it as much as possible.  Sometimes a lot of sky is useful for context, but I don't think this is one of those cases.  When I crop about 2/3 on my monitor, I like the result because it puts the viewer's eye even more strongly on the hills, the reflection, and the foreground.

Sensational colour, mood and detail. Feels nippy!

I also agree with Stephens comments about a possible crop. Another option could be to add a GND filter to help frame the subject better. The subject of course being those striking hills and reflection.

This may not be what you were after and is of course a subjective view but it may then look like this...

I would say this was the optimum perspective and composiiton for this  location, it looks really good. I agree with the sky crop suggestion and a pano type presentation would look equally good. My only other suggestion would be to try for a little more elevation in order to achive better seperation between the foreground grasses and the small rock / island, this may not be possible but it was just a general observation, and doesn't detract from my overall enjoyment of this fine landscape.

Sincere Compliments

Hello Richard,

This is a really nice landscape, but it could use a bit more punch.  I tried some developing in Lightroom, I just put a gradient in the sky, increased clarity, and vibrance.  Some vignetting works also well in most landscape photographs, so i threw that in too.  I guides the eye to the wonderful mountains.

I guess I overdid it a bit, and maybe you dont like it.  Just let me know.

Best regards,
Ben

Great image Richard, lovely scenery.  Your composition emphasizes the sense of isolation in this location, but there is also a great feel of peacefulness and tranquility.  Happy New Year Richard - michel

Hi Rich, I really like the composition and lighting here.  I would bump up the contrast a bit, but perhaps not as much as the example above.  The only other thing that would improve this in my opinion is some interesting clouds/weather.

John, it took me 8 visits to get this image I did see some nice sky's but the problem is that its quite exposed to the wind so if there is any kind of breeze there is only poor reflection, Day 7 http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=14553532 was the most promising morning but came to nothing as the rising sun was blocked by the cloud inversion in the valleys.

I may try again at this place but its a bit of pain as to get the reflection you need to get into the tarn so waders or a dry suite are need at this time of year.

All the best for new year.

Rich.

Hi Richard,

A pleasant scene to view.

While I am not an advocate of small f-stops, especially on short focal length lens, the picture looks nice at this level of presentation.

Best Regards,  Mike

Another possibility I did quickly. But the interesting thing  is that the original has a certain calmness and mood to it. I think a tad of color balance warmth (yellow plus red) applied judiciously to everything except the sky might still maintain the 'original' charm.
