This jowly man stuffed into is suit has a bit of comic flair. There are competing stories here. His large head and frame spilling over his collar suggest that suit-wearing is not an every day affair. But the hand says more than his face does, more sculpted and delicate than any part of the picture. I also like the sunglasses, almost too sporty and modern for the hat. All in all, a complicated man, a complicated portrait, hefty thoughts and hearty chuckles.

He is a marching band director of a high school band. They were lining up to perform in a band competition and he was getting them set to march off. Funny that you noticed the hand. I'm sure it is the hand of a musician.

Did you make up the "Big Daddy," or is this someone you actually know? You've made me curious. Thanks for looking and leaving a comment.

Big Daddy, played by Burl Ives, is one of the characters in Cat on Hot Tin Roof, a 50 or 60 movies, based on a play by Tenessee Williams.

this is a fine profile shot. Good perspective. He fills up the frame quite nicely...I bet you didn't need to zoom in, eh eh eh. Cheers, Micheal

What attracted my attention is his hand, delicate vs. his heavy body. The strong light is creating an unusual bright FG and dark/shadowed hand, colar , tie, and glasses under his hat ,on his right side on the back. His expression looks worried a bit,( well he is in charge for the competition...) but all in all it is an interesting portrait,a bit high key. It is nicely placed on ther frame, and an interesting photo with a lot to observe.I like your execution.

Hi Dave;

I like the way the brightness and the sharpness compliment each other. Nice how you've maintained such great detail in the shadows and the highlights in such a contrasting sunlit scene. There is a certain crispness both to your treatment and to the clothing and demeanor of this gentleman that is quite appealing.

Outstanding composition on this one. Great capture of a very interesting expression on this gentleman rancher's face, as assisted by the position of his hand.

Glasses are a bit modern, but it otherwise looks like the owner coming to see if the overseers are doing their jobs.

Very good capture with the hand providing meaningful context to the title. You managed to portray this big and imposing man with a certain vulnerability through his hesitant expression.
