jlt 0 Posted April 27, 2005 Very Original. Great design from simple concept. Well done. Link to comment
apotheker 0 Posted April 27, 2005 The composition, colour, & light quality make this a Wonderful image, (even more so once viewed larger & realizing what it truly is). Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted April 27, 2005 Well composed: this has lots of rythm both in the top to bottom direction, with the perspective making the water thicker and rigth to left, following the flow out of the nozzles. Link to comment
marty_golin2 0 Posted April 28, 2005 I'm with Gary's comment above. My 1st flash of the thumbnail struck me as sunlit vs shaded areas of a corrugated metal wall. When enlarged, seeing the title, & seeing what it really is, it REALLY is a great shot. Link to comment
marcofrancardi 0 Posted April 29, 2005 I'm with Marty. I was totally wrong. Sarah should see this one. excellent capture! Link to comment

pmj 6 Posted May 16, 2005 This image has been selected for discussion. It is not necessarily the "best" picture the Elves have seen this week, nor is it a contest. It is simply an image that the Elves found interesting and worthy of discussion. Discussion of photo.net policy, including the choice of Photograph of the Week should not take place here, but in the Site Feedback forum. When including images, please make sure they are relevant to the discussion, not more than 511 pixels wide, sufficiently compressed and make sure to enter a caption when uploading. jeff d 1 Posted May 16, 2005 I like the perspective on this one. It is unique from everything I have seen on the POTW awards. Nice job! Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Hello Tiago. This image is fantastic. When I saw the thumbnail, I liked it but I didn't know what it was. When I saw it in all it's glory, I was amazed! Superb abstract, and well observed/achieved. Regards, Nick. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 16, 2005 It almost looks like painting brushstrokes in a way. The angle adds to the tension. I'm wondering though if a slower shutter speed would have made this better or worse. I like it just like this. Link to comment
hique 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Not monotonous at all. Indeed a good abstract 'graphic' image. I would dare to say to not only the simplicity is a possible key to a good abstract but I believe it is THE major key. Very nice image. Link to comment
gary_chambers 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Your image is neither monotonous nor repetitious. I am fascinated by it, and I feel strongly about its quality as an abstract. Great eye, vision, and technical expertise to capture it! Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted May 16, 2005 Not monotonous at all. The cannons are sharp and the water spray almost painterly. Took a couple of seconds to make out what it was. The arc of the patterns is pleasing as well Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted May 16, 2005 For me, the most important aspect of an abstract is that the subject matter is not recognizable. It should immediately capture and hold the viewer's attention and allow the imagination to interpret the image. I don't think simplicity of form or composition is detrimental, but neither is it necessary. Balance, rhythm, shape and colour, I think, are key. Tiago's image works quite well imo. I like the complementary colours and the contrast of the clean lines of the pipes against the blurred lines of the water jets, appearing as brush strokes. For my personal taste I would say this is a good photo rather than a great photo. I'm not sure why specifically; possibly that it just didn't have quite enough initial impact and I tend to go by that rather than an analytical approach. Link to comment
dennisbarnett 0 Posted May 16, 2005 I like this shot, but up to a point. I like the abstract nature of it, the fact that it requires you to give it a double-take and it becomes stronger when you do. I like the composition within the frame and the power of the strokes. I wish there was more contrast perhaps behind the water to give it more punch, and perhaps more of the metal (is that what it is?) showing from the corner. There's not quite enough of the metal exposed for the kind of balance that I like. Overall, it's a good photograph that could be great, IMHO. Link to comment
f. monteiro 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Congratulations Tiago! A perfect choice for POW. This is a hell of a shot! I know the place so well and like thousends of others I have some shots of it, poor ones I should add. But you really did find the angle, light and composition. It's always like that, the eye makes the difference. Parabens! Link to comment
jim_g.1 0 Posted May 16, 2005 I like the diagonal composition of this photograph, I do not find it to be monotonous as there are just enough breaks in the water streams. To me a good abstract can not be recognized on first sight, and it requires that "double take" quality that can't exactly be explained. Tiago has achieved both in this photograph. To me composition is the key element in abstracts. Simplicity works well but IMHO it is not a key, just one of many possible elements. This is a really good photo I 0k...ok its a great photo.
