klimax 0 Posted December 12, 2004 The aesthetic problem I have with the photo is that my eye does not know what to look at. What is the focal point of the photo? Is it the fantasy creatures? But one of them is obscured by the ladder. Is it the yellow door? But the picture is framed by the ladder & the yoke/window. Is it the mossy rocks and the mossy eaves? The originality problem is that I have seen so many pictures of barns. I picked up a coffee-table book recently entitled "Barns". So in my mind, pictures of barns have become a cliche used by city people about country life. To the credit of the photo, the yellow door and the fantasy creatures provide some interest. However, these points of interest don't convey any meaning to me; they only puzzle me. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 6, 2007 I'm not sure when it was decided that a photo to be good must have a central point upon which our eyes remain riveted as Mr. Klima seems to suggest, but I don't agree with such a concept. Even if I did, I would consider the yellow door to be such a point. The photo has many interesting facets, and the fact that my eyes wander around enjoying all its elements make it a success IMHO. A nice scene well captured. Link to comment
