Wounded flamingo - (Phoenicopterus roseus) - I photographed this flamingo with its injured wing in the lagoons of Cagliari, The reason for these injuries is linked to the collision in flight with the high voltage cables that cross the salt flats and are hardly visible to flamingos . They usually do not survive these injuries which prevent flight and make them easy prey for predatory animals. Nikon D850, Sigma Sport 150-600mm, f / 8, 1 / 1600sec, ISO 250. Thanks for your comments

Giangiorgio, although this image displays your usual technical expertise, it tells a very different story when compared with so many of your previous bird photos. I didn't pick up on this until I encountered the jagged reflections. Although the wound is glaring, the reflections serve as a metaphor for indescribable pain. Amazing find- amazing image! - -My best always, Michael - - -Ciao!

Hi Giangiorgio,

an excellent capture of this wounded flamingo. The story behind it is rather sad; man destroys so much of nature and its wonderful creatures like this magnificent bird. As Michael already noted, this photo shows your usual technical expertise, but the story makes us see it in a different light. Kind regards, Vincent

Grazie mille Vincent for your passionate comment much appreciated, surely this is a sad image that I try to avoid, but by observing these beautiful birds I want to document all stages of their life including this one , ( Normally when we observe injured specimens we notify the Animal Protection that will take these injured animals and take them to a veterinary clinic). ciao Giangiorgio

Great shot, as always. Very sad story! Probably countless number of birds get injured because of everything unnatural we humans have introduced...

Haunting image. Very beautiful, but it is hard to escape the resigned look in the bird’s eye, as if it knew the end was at hand. Your work is almost the only reason I still visit photo.net. Thank you.
