barmaid at the Folies-Bergère

This is a revision of an earlier post titled “outside looking in” – not of a barmaid at the Folies-Bergère but a waitress at the Lincoln Ristorante in New York’s Lincoln Center. The pose of the waitress to the right and the reflections created by so much glass reminded me of Manet’s final major painting and probably his most debated painting – A Bar at the Folies-Bergère. Much of the debate revolves around the improbable or impossible perspective, the presence or absence of a mirror and reflections and the point of view of the painter or viewer. I think I had similar debates with myself when constructing this digital painting.

Many thanks, Tatiana. I knew this scene reminded me of an impressionist work. I quickly found it was Manet.
