tai 3 Posted January 10, 2021 Excellent shot, Giangiorgio! Interesting diagonal composition, colors and walking heron! It seems the bird is going to meet someone. What is its goal? Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment

vincentoiseau 83 Posted January 10, 2021 Hi Giangiorgio, very nicely composed photo of this great egret! I think the egret is going towards a place that it knows has the promise of a meal, maybe insects or lizards. Herons and egrets are likely to explore new places every now and then, but have their 'favorite spots' to which they return. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment

michaellinder 16,613 Posted January 14, 2021 Giangiorgio, when my gaze first encountered this image, it afforded me the impression that the egret has taken a posture to show that it is king of the hill. Although I've seen these birds often in my area, I knew rather little about their habits until I read an online piece Audubon posted: "[usually found in] Marshes, ponds, shores, mud flats. Usually forages in rather open situations, as along edges of lakes, large marshes, shallow coastal lagoons and estuaries; also along rivers in wooded country. Usually nests in trees or shrubs near water, sometimes in thickets some distance from water, sometimes low in marsh." Accordingly, although the subject is perched on a rocky structure it nonetheless may be close to water. Finally, I'm very impressed by the image's simplicity. - - My best always, michael - - Ciao!
