Some species of plane trees shed their bark in a way that makes people think they're sick or dying, but they're just growing in a natural way, like some animals lose their skin. This process reminded me of how people sometimes have to grow by letting go of ideas or habits that inhibit their personal growth. The plane tree in the photo was a really nice example, as it showed pieces of bark just coming off the trunk. Your comments are very welcome.

Vincent, the world itself is a huge source of abstraction, as this image proves. It fascinates without a great deal of fanfare, trading on shape, color, and texture. Fine work. - - My best always, michael

Good abstract with great colors, Vincent. I actually see a face here (Bottom center about a third of the way up in the bark cut out). Regards, Patrick

Hi Michael,

thank you for your great comments! Yes, the world is full of beautiful abstracts for those who want to see them. This tree just showed a pattern that I liked very much. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Patrick,

thank you for your comments that I always appreciate! I was wondering if anyone would see that face and you did right away. I only saw it when I was editing the picture. Kind regards, Vincent

I love the patterns on these trees. For some reason the shapes form an association in my mind with native American Indians. These shapes seem the antithesis of the hard, unforgiving linear forms prevalent in the modern world.

Vincent,

A lot of natural abstract is around us. But can't be seen by everyone.

You captured that perfectly. Natural colors, natural textures.... and yes! even face, which adds some mystery to already good photo.

The bark of this tree is under the eyes of all those who pass by it, but only the expert eye of a skilled photographer can see these abstract forms and present them to the best, ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Jack,

thanks for your interesting comments on this photo! I agree with your observation that most of the shapes in our modern world are 'unforgiving linear forms'. That's an important reason I always find comfort in organic form and nature in general. I have to think some more about your association with native American Indians which intrigues me, but I think that might be linked to a personal experience of yours. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Philip,

thanks for your friendly comment! There are some interesting analogies and connections to be seen and felt between our personal lives and what happens in nature. In our behavior and customs we have drifted off quite a bit from our own direct connection to nature while still being part of it. I think lots of us are seeking to reinforce that connection. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Giangiorgio,

thank you for this compliment that I truly appreciate, coming from you! I think it's a mindset that people who love nature share, translated into an image. Photographers see shapes and forms differently from most people, although I have friends who see lots of the same things I do in nature, but just don't share it through photos. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Vincent, I saw your photo again yesterday, but I refrained from making a comment.

The reason is that this type of photo I still can't get from a location, probably my path is still uphill and I have to face the simplest things first.

I really liked, however, your comment, yes.

Best regards. Max

Hi Max,

that's very nice of you, thanks! But as I said before, just work on the things you want to show and develop your own photography. No need to be holding back! Kind regards, Vincent

Wonderful photo and your remark , Vincent! I like it a lot! This picture makes many associations depending on the viewer's perception. It is possible to guess the meaning of the inscription scribbled by someone in the upper left. You can see swiftly rushing creatures, some kind of faces, eyes ... The plane tree is a very skillful stripper for every taste. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana P.S. Sorry my belated comment.

Hi Tatiana,

I like your comment a lot! It is not only well-worded, it's funny and true at the same time. I agree the bark of this plane tree is an ideal carrier of a lot of perceptions, thoughts and impressions. That must be why it appeals to you. Thank you very much, Tatiana! Kind regards, Vincent

An image with a lot of layers that add depth and character, Vincent. I like the gradient of colors that are superimposed onto each other. Looks like someone left a message on the upper lefthand side. An abstract that gives you plenty to look at and assimilate. An interesting find and capture caught with skill and deft. Best regards, Paul.

Hi Paul and Dana,

thank you for your friendly comments! This bark shedding its skin is so common that people seem to overlook it, yet it is so beautiful and such an easy subject for photography, I'm surprised so few people photograph it. Kind regards, Vincent
