Zbigniew Tyburczy - ZT 6 Posted August 21, 2019 Jack, Some people might say - such images are flat and soulless... Personally - I'm a big fan of that kind of work. I like bottom part of the photo, the way you composed it. Imitation of waves, all lines and shadows. Everything creates dynamic image. Excellent example of smart use of composition. vincentoiseau 83 Posted August 21, 2019 Hi Jack, what a wonderfully well seen and imaginitive composition! The mast and sail ropes are instantly recognizable, just as the waves in which the ship is sinking. You have a gift for perceiving the visual world differently than most of us that is pretty rare. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
tai 3 Posted August 21, 2019 Great find and moving picture, Jack! It looks like this "ship" is thinking where to turn the sails. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 21, 2019 George, Patrick, ZT, Vincent, Gerald, Tatiana - Thanks fore the comments; I wondered what kind of response this one would get. I like to try to change the way I process visual information. It's not that easy since the way we see things is programmed; For me going against those ingrained perceptions is what it's all about. I have a lot of theories about this because I think we see what we expect to see and that's a problem for any artist. Link to comment
Nick D. 4,760 Posted August 22, 2019 It is interesting, it is hard to describe, what actually attracting our attention in this picture, but it's certainly attract it. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,612 Posted August 28, 2019 "We see what we expect to see and that's a problem for any artist." Perhaps the image's content and title refutes this theory, Jack. I'd like to think that you see what you choose to see. In my opinion, this is what informs your work. When you see shadows on a street, you don't just walk away from them; they become part of your consciousness at the point when you decide to shoot a photograph. Link to comment
