This young great spotted woodpecker (recognizable by the red 'cap') was just starting to peck away on this treetrunk as I spotted it, which isn't difficult, as the sound of its beak on the wood is so characteristic, somewhat like a dry drum roll. Although these birds are relatively shy, I could come close enough to get this shot by slowly moving in its direction. Your comments are very welcome.

A very beautiful image of the woodpecker in its natural environment, unfortunately I never managed to make beautiful images of this bird, at the time of the shot it was put on the other side of the trunk , ciao Giangiorgio

Nice shot, Vincent! Well captured! I like this “cozy” frame, light, details ... You continue to confirm your pseudonym. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

Hi Giangiorgio,

thank you for your funny comments! It can be frustrating indeed to make pictures of woodpeckers, as they always seem to be on the wrong side of the tree :) Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Paul and Dana,

thank you very much for these friendly comments! In a woody environment, light spots like this one are rare, let alone with a great spotted woodpecker in them; I was lucky that day. Kind regards, Vincent
