hstelljes 41 Posted May 21, 2019 The art of the subject out of focus. Well done Jack. Of course my mind drifts to the mark on the wall and how I could tie that into the image, alas I can not. So I'll enjoy this for what it is, another McRitchie original.........................BR, Holger Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted May 23, 2019 Laurent, Holger - Thanks for the comments. The smiling woman is actually a part of a political poster; the rest is cut off by the edge of the frame. The mechanisms on the right are actually back behind the wall on which the poster is tacked. I thought they made an interesting match ("Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match...."). For some reason the woman reminded me of a peasant in the old Soviet Realism style - the inspiringly patriotic, proletarian heroine out front with a favored cadre of bureaucrats behind the scenes busily directing, producing and projecting the image to the masses - Hollywood on the Volga. I was originally going to call it "Soviet Life" which I'm quite sure would have been several bridges too far so I settled on the old slogan "Be Happy in your Work". Actually, in our journey through life, not much really changes, whether we're talking about the propaganda of the Soviet worker's paradise or the self-satisfied corporate blandishments of the USA. Life is a disillusioning experience, in the best sense of the word. That's probably more than you wanted to know about the way my mind works, but there it is. Link to comment

tai 3 Posted May 23, 2019 An interesting shot and your explanations, Jack! Indeed, you can see a caricature of the Soviet grimace. Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment
