A meaningful tribute to Hadba'a, Saad. The image clearly documents the shelling the city took as a result of the Iraqi conflict. Sadly my country did little to help the situation. Aside from what appears to be a mural on the wall, the woman walking in the foreground adds considerable interest to the image. Apparently, the years have taken a toll on her, perhaps congruent with the toll on the city. She walks bent over with her eyes focused below. A favorite. - - My best always, michael - - - - PS. I did some quick internet research and learned how the city acquired its nickname, Hunchback.

Hi Saad,

is this a composite photo? In any case, it's a very good image of a heavily afflicted city. The elderly woman is symbolic for the way the people of this town have suffered under a war they didn't deserve to be in. That holds true for almost any war. Wars are waged because of material or strategic interests, disregarding people's needs. Kind regards, Vincent

Dear Vincent, yes it was from four photos of mine, one is of the wall after bombed by the Iraqi government, an image that I was questioned by ISIS about why I took the photo, I was convincing enough for them to leave me without penalty. They do banned photography during their power over the city.

the other is after occupation of the city by USA and its allies, the woman is from in between the two occupations, and the sky from after the liberation of the city.

Since 2003 we live in catastrophic situations, both physically and mentally, and this composite is my way of seeing the life and telling the story in just one image.

Thank you for asking and for your kind input.

My regards.
