Antiquity?? Or Reliability?

setsail728

Parallel Rules and paper charts have been used accurately for centuries. Now it’s high tech electrical gps chart plotters. But antiquity looms large when the high tech has its usual glitch and you are out of sight of land!!!

I would say both. I did the vast majority of my flying and sailing before GPS was available to the civilian population. Now that I've become dependent on my RV GPS, though, I would have a hard time going back to charts.

Rob,

I sailed for over 40 years and I started with charts and the like. Also went to gps. Still, many of my friends still on the water, and using modern electronics, wouldn't leave the marina for a long trip without paper charts, parallel rules, dividers etc. We all know that sometimes the gps system won't work. Either because the on board electronics are out, or there is no gps coverage (rare these days) in a cruising area. Of course these old guys cut their navigational teeth using paper, so they are right at home with it.

Interesting idea and successful realization, blending layers is not new to me! Well done, Warren, very well done! Bravo, my friend! PDE

Remarkable object and image, Warren! I find it original and beautiful, I like it! You have very elegantly illustrated the problems that, alas, are happening with GPS navigation. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana
