Grey heron

On a sunny november day, this heron flew by well within my photographic range. I like the reflections of the autumn trees and the blue sky as much as the heron. Shot on a bean bag with a Canon 400 mm 5.6 L lens.

This is a wonderful capture. Photographing birds is tough. They seem to move stately until you try to photograph them. Kudos on this one.

Hi Martin,

'they seem to move stately until you try to photograph them'; that about sums it up. Thanks for your witty comment. Kind regards, Vincent

I am amazed how straight the legs are kicked back on this bird, Vincent. The colors of the feathers are really nice and seeing both wings is a real bonus. I like the reflection in the water and the magnificent colors and ripples. Excellent control of tones. The bird stands out from the background and is in a great position in the image. A very beautiful capture. Best regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,

thank you for this insightful and friendly comment on this photo! The warm light hits the bird really beautifully and that makes everything stand out. Having the reflectimg surface of the water as a background was a great bonus too. I had all the luck in the world that afternoon. Kind regards, Vincent
