Wayne Sadler 579 Posted October 7, 2017 Trattoria Caverna Capitan Uncino (Captain Hook’s Cavern)I loved this little restaurant in my favorite square (Campo San Giacomo Dell’orio). Didn’t learn til I was back in the states that the reason was right in the name – trattoria. Trattoria: a family run establishment presided over by a host and has as its most important aspect its sense of neighborhood - locals dine there daily, or at least weekly and are treated with familiarity. It seemed most of the people at this little establishment spoke Italian and knew the hostess and waiters personally. Understanding little Italian I still felt at home. The hostess, who was obviously the boss, was a gregarious lady and made us understand she spoke absolutely no English and she soon learned we spoke no Italian but we communicated and I got out the phrase - il cibo è eccellente – the food is excellent. Well, I got out the “il cibo” part and she helped me with the “è eccellente”. Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted October 7, 2017 Great atmosphere Wayne. The light and tones really set the mood, what I like best is how I'm able to look at the scene from afar and feel like I could just walk right in and enjoy myself. There's a German word for this called gemutlich ( comfortable) and I'm sure I spelled it incorrectly but it's what came to mind and it is meant in a most complimentary way..............................Best Always, Holger Link to comment
