Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted February 26, 2017 Alf, I clicked on this not knowing it is yours. As soon as it appeared I knew it has your signature all over it. I did so just after studying some Emily Dickinson poems for a class I'm taking. Silent Witness, is a perfect title and is as poetic as is your image. Nature speaks ominously in this image. It's beautiful and eerie at the same time. The eerie mood in the sky reaches the leafless tree. The diagonal lines help the image to communicate. The sharp detail in the foreground is perfectly offset by the hazy and angry sky. I like the small bush to the right of the tree and the clarity in the foreground rocks. Sorry for the rambling. Wonderful image. Larry Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted February 26, 2017 Hi Alf, So glad to see you post new work. This image as always is so very well composed. Like the front to back depth and changes, the fog rolling down really brings atmosphere to the image. I like it. Hope to see more and hoping all is good with you..................Best Always, Holger Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 26, 2017 Alf: Ahhh, an alien landscape (perhaps your home planet) that's moody and mysterious; seemingly barren but there has to be a lifeform here because they stacked a stone fence and cut one of the branches ;-). Your usual fine detail and composition, love it... Mike Link to comment

gregverena 342 Posted February 26, 2017 Alf, such a moody, gloomy (in a good way) scene. Love it! Link to comment

Gerald Cafferty 83,644 Posted February 27, 2017 Hi Alf, another good picture, the vegetation suggests a winter outing but the sky could be any time of year in North Wales.Regards GC. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted February 27, 2017 CHRIS Thank you very much for your interest and kind words!....Regards ...Alf LARRY Many Thanks for your thoughts and analysis, it really helps when people describe in detail what they see or feel. I am still trying to figure out the best way to navigate around this new PN site. I hope I can keep up with comments and the interaction between fellow photographers. It certainly doesn't seem as easy or straightforward as it once was. So any tips would be gratefully received. Thanks again Larry.....Alf HOLGER Thank you so much! This is all fairly new to me, so if I lose any of your valuable input in the future, then please forgive me! Despite the changes to the site and lets face it some of them are really good, I still prefer the old kind of format, it was just so much easier to navigate. But after much consideration I think the best course of action is to try and support PN the best I can and hopefully remain a positive influence. MIKE Not quite my home planet, I live a couple of moons away! As previously stated above I hope to contribute more in the coming months and hopefully we can try and bring about the further changes that are needed to make this site great again. It is after all the people that have the potential to make it great. Without them all that is left is software! Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Mike .....Alf BILL Many Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated! ...Alf GREG Typical Welsh weather, moody atmospheric and dark..........and oh yes it can be just like this in summer too :) ....Many Thanks ! ....Alf RADU Many Thanks for your thoughts. The landscape here is kind of timeless, there is little sign of man influence in these parts. I thought it might rain but surprisingly it didn't! .....Alf GERALD You are right about the sky! I have been to locations nearby in midsummer and the low cloud looks exactly the same! Cheers Gerald! .....Best Regards ...Alf Link to comment

charo 3 Posted March 1, 2017 The fog ... many of your photographs include fog, and it adds interest and mystery to the image. I like the composition, the panoramic format, the colors, and of course ... the fog! Kind Regards, Rosario. Link to comment

michaellinder 16,612 Posted March 3, 2017 Alf, I must apologize for the time it has taken for me to get enough of a comfort zone in connection with the new site. Hopefully, this explains the tardiness of the following comments. Although I realize that each viewer has different preference and tastes, this image has everything I would want to see - sparse vegetation, craggy hills and mountains, and historical evidence of a human presence. The contrast between the hazy, soft sky and the sharpness of the tree branches in the foreground lends an element of realism that brought me back to earth, after being caught up in a serious dream. Then again, so many of your landscapes have such dreamy atmospheres that I feel no guilt. - - My best always, michael Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted March 4, 2017 PATSY Many Thanks for your interest and kind words ...........Kind Regards .......Alf br br ROSARIO Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Fog and mist do add a kind of semi hidden dimension that I find fascinating , glad you like it too. Kind Regards ..........Alf SAM Thank you so much for your interest and kind words Best Regards ...........Alf JIM I think we share a passion for lone trees, something very appealing about them! Sincere Thanks Alf MICHAEL I think I know exactly what you mean in relation to the navigation of the new site. I am just beginning to get a feel for it once again. Thank you for your invaluable feedback, it is truly appreciated! This scene is fairly typical of the Snowdonia region of North Wales. The rugged beauty of the mountains interspersed with lush green valleys and burbling streams, a photographers heaven! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted March 4, 2017 just as a note to the site owners or anyone else that cares to read this. I am struggling to separate comments I tried a suggestion from Mike using < br > without the spaces, but this does not seem to work. Furthermore there seems to be no provision for making words highlighted by making them bold! Anyone with any suggestions please let me know............The only alternative I can see at the moment is to write a comment separately in reply to every comment I receive, which seems yet another time consuming awkward way of doing things . Not Here 93 Posted March 4, 2017 Alf:Weird, but that seems to be the norm. Perhaps it's a browser issue, although I'm using Safari on this iPad and use Microsoft Edge on my desktop. Both seem to accept the < br> command. (This post is another test.)MikeEdit1: Ha! So much for that idea! Doesn't work now, although it still does in the forum.Edit2:Ok, try two lines of < p> (remove space) between paragraphs. That works ;-) Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted March 5, 2017 MIKE Thanks for your advice! Lets see if this works :) Alf Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted March 5, 2017 Alf: That's very strange but then I guess that's been happening a lot here. My instructions were a bit thin, so here's how I sent my last message that worked: < p> < p> For every paragraph space you need two < p>, each on their own line. Oh well, if it doesn't work for your browser maybe the mods will get it all fixed soon.... Mike EDIT: LOL, you see above that it worked once, now it doesn't. So much for quality control. Pierre Dumas 274 Posted March 6, 2017 Dramatic and a bit gloomy from one view, but there is a light promising cheerful mood from the left! Beautiful picture as always! Cheers, Alf! PDE Link to comment
