I took this at the Johannesburg zoo. I am an avid animal lover..I believe in zoos for

endangered species where breeding programs are needed, I do not believe in caged

animals being on display for the benefit of just seeing the animals. For that, people

must go to game parks. This breaks my heart. Please View LARGER. Comments and

A very beautiful portrait, full of feeling--you've made this image in such a sensitive way that I think the message would have come through clearly even without the title or explanation. It stuns me that some people still believe that animals don't experience emotions, but a portrait like this might go a long way toward persuading them otherwise. A really nice image.

A beautiful portrait, if only there wasn't so much sadness behind those eyes. Very well presented and your comments so truthful, well done. Best regards Ken.

You are ll so kind...thanks so much...it can be perceived as relaxed and calm..or unfortunately, it can be perceived as I see it and as you all see it. Im pleased to discover that you all too share a soft spot for animals. Thanks again.

Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics to an animal or other object, but how can we evade doing it, he looks so introspective and compassionate. I love your animal portraits and the true to life way in which they are portrayed. Excellent, bravo.

Thank you so much, John. We as humans feel we have the right to hurt, in one way or another, other living beings/creatures/animals, etc all for self gain. None of it makes any sense to me and never will. Your time and input is so valuable to me, as is everyone elses. Best regards, Lawrence

I'm with the crowd on this one, a tangible sense of melancholy and a superb portrait.  Good stuff... Mike
