When I was much younger, I played the "monster" myself. I don't know

if the parents (my brothers and sister) liked me hyping up their kids but

the kids themselves never tired of it - the escape from make believe

danger.

A few years ago when my granddaughters were at a similar age of the girl in the photo, I took them to our local park and acted as 'the Big bad Wolf' chasing them to the tune of girls making a high pitched but gleeful (at least I thought that) sounds. Then I saw a lady lunging for her cell phone and I immediately cut to the chaste and stopped chasing them. I assured her that I was the legitimate grandpa and soon, her daughter wanted to join the fun of being chased by the "Big Bad wolf".

Your image rekindled this memory.

A very natural and fun moment, one which we can all relate to. Jack you've captured that spontaneous glee in Petras' expression very well. Great shot.

What strikes me here is the delicate movement of the little girl's dress, her attitude and the expression on her face. You really caught that 'instant decisif'. A little 19th-Century Alice in Wonderland chased by a 21st-Century monster. That fantasy-like quality is a strong point to me.

Who's playing whom?  As much as Ricky is hamming it up for the young lady, she appears to be merely pretending that she is frightened.  It looks like she's having the time of her life.  You've superbly captured a moment in a family's life that could just as well be celebrated by any other family.  And so there's somewhat of a universal message here.

Thanks for the comments on this picture. I think this kind of "monster" play must be common around the world, the thrill of danger in a safe setting. Maybe we get something of the same charge as adults when we go to a horror movie (not really my cup of tea, though.)

You captured a very dynamic  movement of  the little girl in motion. The picture is  good, even without  the  monster too.

Cheers.

Let's do some street photography.  Things happen on the street, but most of the time they aren't too terrible.  The street gives me a charge, some sense of danger, usually not brought to fruition in an unpleasant encounter, but the possibility is always there.

Wonderful candid shot that takes me back to my childhood and that of my children.  Yes indeed, being chased by a 'monster' but the child feeling 'safe' in the surroundings - makes for a fun time - 'innocence ' knowing even if she gets caught - the worst that can happen is perhaps some tickling or I recall a 'whisker rub' - now this family member could invent his own 'reward' with that wonderful hair cut!!  I love the expression on the little girl's face - you sure nailed this shot Jack.
