I love the scene, but I think that it would do more for me if I could see (1) the texture of the sand and (2) just enough contrast (or adjustment from the left in Levels in Photoshop) that I did not feel as if I were looking through a filmy residue on the "surface" of the photo.

 

That said, I emphasize that I really do love the scene--it's a great capture.  Now what do you do with it in post?  I realize that you were shooting into the sun, but it still seems a bit more flat than it has to or ought to.

Then again, maybe not.  I didn't adjust much here, but somehow your version seems more real.

 

Yet, yet I still keep peering into that sand in the shadow and wonder why I cannot see more grittiness, the kind that gets between your toes.
