If the cropping removed most of the left portion, the photo would (for me) be much more interesting with a compelling focus on the lone tree and the person moving deliberately toward what is left of a fading light.

I respectfully don't agree that it needs cropped. As it is, the composition emphasises the isolation of both tree and figure and the sense of space. It's rather minimalist and quite a powerful image as it stands.
