The two recent uploads are winter beach scenes. I wanted to display

the desolate and beauty each may represent. I would love to hear

comments regarding which you like and why. Thanks for looking.

Both the color version and this monochrome work beautifully. The composition here is particularly good with the detail of the grassy hillock and the long expanse of beach leading to the thin stretch of ocean. The lovely horizon line seems to serve as the conductor of the composition and keeps the whole orchestra playing together perfectly.

Somehow the monochrome version lends itself to a feeling of nostalgia. I imagine it is a winter beach scene, one of those cold days when you have it all to yourself and can lose yourself in the sounds of the wind and the sea.  The many footprints lead the way to a whole new adventure. I love it!

Best Regards

My favorite of the two.  I particularly like the composition of this image where the footprints lead us around the dune and onto the beach.  Well done... Mike

Holger, I like both of them but to me they just mean different things each because of the way you' ve composed them. This one for me is a well taken interesting classic. It has that inviting waves musicality and takes me to that profound childhood memory. Bare feet, very early in the morning, I am led to the sea with a towel in my hand, the water is warm and clear and hardly anyone in sight. It's calm and happiness in this peaceful, relaxing photograph you took.  Best regards,

Holger, I like this one better than the other, and by quite a margin. This one is more dynamic, the B&W treatment emphasizes the winter emptiness, the balance is better, and it just feels better to me. Very well seen, captured, and processed.

beautiful black and white winter scene of the beach Holger you have captured the emptiness and solitude .... the twisted fence is priceless

A classic yet understated black and white landscape, (my favorite kind).

The technical quality is excellent as well.

Well done Holger,

Best, David

Thanks J in general I agree, with b&w it's more about the textures and composition I guess sometimes colors can be distracting and we rely on them to carry an image. Always a pleasure to hear from you.

I join the ranks of those who prefer this version, although the original is strong as well.  There's something about footprints in the sand and a fence in partial repair that conveys a totally different feel than vegetation.  I guess its the implication that people have been here and have left reminders.

Best always,

michael
