alfbailey 3 Posted February 20, 2016 I wasn't quite sure what to post this under but "Nature" seemed appropriate. I was quite amazed that the jogger didn't even pause as the deer emerged from the woods on the right, and of course the deer didn't either! Your thoughts and comments are always most welcome. Thank You! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 20, 2016 Ahhh, a trio of de(a)rs. I recall another shot of yours in this area. The fog and the interaction of the subjects work well together; as well as the sense of motion from the jogger's stance and the raised hooves. Good one... Mike Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted February 20, 2016 Hi Alf, Nothing like a misty morning to start off the day. Interesting how the runner and the deer are all looking the same way, as if there was something else there to distract them. I would think running across deer in this close proximity would be enough to make her look at the deer in front of her. You were ready on the shutter though, good catch.Best Always, Holger Link to comment
Tony Brandstetter 814 Posted February 20, 2016 ALF! Good capture of nature with Man/woman. It is like she doesn't even notice them. A good foggy morn ~ Link to comment
michaellinder 16,612 Posted February 20, 2016 Location and timing . . . It seems to me that the jogger is so self-absorbed that she didn't even consider the possibility of stopping to watch the deer. Indeed she's not even looking in their direction. Your composition provided the opportunity for the tree branches in the top right and the golden vegetation just below to frame the encounter. The fog certainly help to soften this scene. This certainly seems appropriate for the occasion. My best, michael Link to comment
photo by patsy dunn 1 Posted February 20, 2016 Hi Alf, Wow....beautiful capture with perfect timing on your part. I am surprised the jogger didn't see them. Take care, Patsy Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 278 Posted February 21, 2016 Looks wonderful, like a story or a dream in the misty park! Cheers PDE Link to comment
DavidTriplett 12,682 Posted February 21, 2016 Alf, nicely seen and captured. I can only wonder how prepared you must be in order to take advantage of fleeting opportunities such as this. I don't think this image would be nearly so evocative without the fog. Good eye and knowing where to be. Link to comment
Eystein 1 Posted February 21, 2016 Very nice, the mist, the path, the deers and a person in the background. Great atmosphere. Link to comment
JimCowan 0 Posted February 21, 2016 Alf,This truly draws the viewer in, the path as a leading line drawing the viewers eye towards the two deer and jogger, with the mist acting as a back stop. The juxtaposition of the deer and jogger demand a closer look. Nicely done!Jim Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 21, 2016 Not common here, but not uncommon either. I've come home and seen deer in my backyard. They look at me and continue what they were doing. I like the heavy mist or fog.... The deer are beautiful, and the path is a nice lead-in for the viewer (as was stated above). Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted February 22, 2016 You have a great memory! It was almost in exactly the same position but about two years previous to this one. In the last one it was a couple that were walking away from the deer. I think the deer must emerge at this point on a regular basis, this time I was more ready for them, not sure the jogger was : - ) Many Thanks Alf HOLGER I agree I love a misty morning and particularly when I'm out with my camera. I can't quite work out if the jogger was pretending the deer were not in front of her, and so she wouldn't feel obliged to stop, or that she was distracted by something else. I was ready this time, although I tried to get the jogger outlined directly between the two deer. Many Thanks for your feedback Holger! Alf TONYMany Thanks! I think she was doing her best to not notice them : - ) Best Regards Alf MICHAEL I think you could be right, the other alternative being is that she did see them but chose to ignore them. Maybe she see's them every day. I was very fortunate with the framing and the foggy backdrop, it kind of made the main protagonists stand out. Sincere Thanks Michael! Alf PATSY Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback! I think she may have just been ignoring them and hoped they would just go away : - ) Alf PIERRE Every picture tells a story, or so they say. I just can't work out the plot to this one! Many Thanks Pierre! Alf DAVID I must confess that I was in almost exactly the same position 2 years previously when a young couple were standing at the edge of the woods with camera's poised ready to capture the elusive deer (the photo is in my portfolio in the All Creatures Great and small folder and entitled "Hide & Seek") the couple started walking away because the deer didn't show, then as soon as they turned their back, the deer came out to play. Of course I didn't expect this to happen again, but I knew it was a crossing point for the deer, so I was somewhat prepared : - ) Strangely enough it was foggy last time too! Many Thanks David! Alf EYSTEIN Thank you so much for your thoughts and kind words! Best Regards Alf JIM Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback! I think the fog adds a lot to the atmosphere and I agree the path you mentioned is a good leading line. I wish I could take credit to say I'd planned it, but it was very spontaneous : - ) Best Regards Alf DONNA I think some of the deer do become accustomed to Human presence and don't always perceive them as a threat. I know in Scotland I have been able to get very close to them, and particularly when they are engrossed in eating. Sincere Thanks for your visit and thoughtful comments! Alf Link to comment
karolostrivizas 2 Posted February 22, 2016 Fantastic capture of the moment Alf....!! beautiful magical atmosphere ...!!! Link to comment
dgv 1 Posted February 23, 2016 Joggers never stop..she is completely unaware of the crossing deer she is also looking at something else instead of straight ahead....:-). There is something vaguely humorous about this. The misty atmosphere adds a kind of drama to the story. Most impressive of all though is the speed at which you reacted !. A sign of a good photographer. Well done again, my friend !. Link to comment
sarah_mcnulty 5 Posted February 23, 2016 Hi Alf, What great timing! I find Deer almost impossible to capture - by the time I have my camera ready they are gone! The misty atmosphere and the lady jogging adds extra interest. Great capture. Best wishes. Sarah. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted February 25, 2016 Many Thanks fo r your thoughtful feedback, much appreciated! Alf GIANNI Many Thanks for your interest and kind words! Alf DIMITRIS You are quite right, she probably has headphones plugged in and is blissfully unaware of her surroundings! I agree about the humorous, it's the type of image that invites a caption, but in all honesty I can't think of one : - )At one point I was thinking about cloning out the jogger using the content aware tool, but there is something about her presence which just makes the image that little bit different. Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback my friend! Alf SARAH They are moody creatures, sometimes I can get quite close to them without them moving, whilst other times the slightest movement from me or even the slightest noise will spook them. Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Sarah. Alf Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted March 3, 2016 Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words. Best Regards Alf ROBERT I kind of wish I had got the jogger right between the two deer, but it's not bad for a spontaneous shot : - ) Many thanks for your positive feedback! Alf Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted March 21, 2016 The deer recognize that a female jogger is not a threat! Perhaps weapons were well concealed. Oh Dear! Link to comment
