mountaineer1965 0 Posted October 31, 2014 Latourell Falls in Eagle Creek Wilderness is a tough falls to shoot because you have such a limit area to shoot from. This viewpoint is literally cut out of the side of a cliff. This is a B&W conversion of a previously posted color image. I'm very interested in what you think, especially compared to the color version. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Link to comment
ralton 0 Posted October 31, 2014 Wow, what a splendid B&W landscape! I have nothing to say, simply awesome! Link to comment
tomasz_czajkowski 0 Posted October 31, 2014 Outstanding photo. Perfect composition, dof and B&W converssion. Link to comment
dominicbyrne 0 Posted October 31, 2014 Craig - this image is beautiful. For me it works so much better than the colour version as there is nothing to distract the eye now. The tonality through the image is perfect and it exudes a place that time forgot. I would be tempted to darken down the top right slightly to balance the other corners which in turn would bring the eye back in to the main body. Outstanding! Link to comment
Tony Brandstetter 814 Posted October 31, 2014 The flow of the water is spot on, beautifully done, surrounded with the darkness of the vegetation you composted a very nice image to review. It would be interesting to see in color but fine the way it is. Tony B Link to comment
mountaineer1965 0 Posted October 31, 2014 Tony, the color version of this is in my "Water" folder. Dominic, thank you for your comments and encouragement, I consider you B&W work among the best on PN and highly value your input. Tomasz, on your comment on the DOF I will just say that I love large format :-) the detail and range that is possible with a 4x5 camera is truly, as of yet, is unsurpassed! I only wish I could afford to keep shooting with it :-( Thanks again Link to comment
setsail728 15 Posted October 31, 2014 Beautiful, almost serene photo. I take it you used a slow shutter speed to get the falls so smooth. The lighting where the falls hits the water below is superb! I haven't seen the color version yet but I'll go and take a look. Excellent work under difficult conditions! Link to comment
mountaineer1965 0 Posted October 31, 2014 If I remember correctly the exposure on this shot was about 3.5 minutes at f22. Link to comment

Daniel Álamo 0 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi,I'm not of all a fan of B&W; but this time is the perfect framing which attires me to the photo. For me it's perfect. Nothing more to add or comment to improve this. 7/7. Link to comment
tolle13 0 Posted November 2, 2014 Craig, both shots are beautiful. I am more drawn t this one, the tones are wonderful and the mist above the falls adds atmosphere.Jed Link to comment
bruslee1 0 Posted November 2, 2014 Great B&W image......very impressive. I believe this is Metlako Falls, not Latourell. Link to comment
mountaineer1965 0 Posted November 3, 2014 Bruce, thanks for noticing that I screwed up the name of the falls, at least I got the location correct :-) Daniel, thanks for taking the time to view and comment on this image, it means a lot to me and knowing your not crazy about B&W it means even more, thank you. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to let me know how you feel about this image, I really appreciate it. Link to comment
charo 3 Posted November 4, 2014 I love the feeling of the image, the composition is nice and angle is excellent. Very good tonal range from black to white, and shadows to highlights. Great use of prolonged exposure to get this beautiful effect in the fall. I saw the color version ... is beautiful too, but I definitely prefer the black and white.Kind Regards,Rosario. dgv 1 Posted November 4, 2014 I had a look at your colour version of this photo and I prefer the monotone version above. Beautifully framed and presented. The tones accentuate the mood of the scene and increase the drama and impact. Also, this applies to both photos, the portrait mode helps the picture a lot. Very well done !. Link to comment
4billionyears 0 Posted November 5, 2014 Craig, When I look at this beautiful picture I am reminded of how much we stand to lose if film disappears for ever. I think that the B&W version works better than the original color, but I cannot put my finger on why - I like them both, but if I had to choose I'd keep this one. Marvelous work. Link to comment
meisterman 0 Posted November 6, 2014 Craig, Absolutely amazing capture! Wonderful job! Link to comment
krpradu 125 Posted November 8, 2014 A bit of fog I think, water smoky flow and bw give to this photo a very interesting mood,is like winter came with some thin frost and cold weather. Link to comment
