Wayne Sadler 738 Posted July 21, 2014 Mike,Thanks. It is very encouraging when a talented artist thinks your work has merit. (And thanks for helping me to better see, photographically, the Smoky mountains) Link to comment
LineMartel 6,708 Posted July 21, 2014 Nice details, good focus. I wish the insect was better lit, it is on the dark side a bit... maybe adding selective lighting in post would help.Regards, Line Link to comment

Wayne Sadler 738 Posted July 22, 2014 Line,Thanks. Very helpful observation. I think I have trouble seeing and balancing tonal value when yellow is present. Link to comment
LineMartel 6,708 Posted July 22, 2014 Yellow is a hard one for me too... I have a hard time extracting nuance, and often find it difficult to balance the light. Keeping the brightness of the yellow in check mostly results in an underexposed insect, thus the adjustment in post. Only other way around it is to use diffused lighting, but I can't carry that extra equipment and think it would be difficult to get at macro distance of the insect with such equipment... So, overcast sky is my best diffused lighting. Just my take on it. Link to comment
Wayne Sadler 738 Posted July 22, 2014 Thanks, Line. I've noticed overcast days are best. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted August 5, 2014 Beautiful capture. Have you tried the shadow/highlight to brighten the non-yellow shadow parts? Don't know how long you have had the D7100 but it was on my list of potential new cameras. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted August 5, 2014 The image and composition you have is just fine. Since there was this discussion about 'yellow', I did a crop which is not a recommendation but shows another possibility which reduces the level of yellow. ..................... Believe it or not but I have forgotten how to insert an image - (*_*) - been away too long and getting senile. Link to comment
Wayne Sadler 738 Posted August 7, 2014 Tony,Thanks. Lightening the bee is an improvement. Don't think my old version of PS has shadow/highlight but I usually tackle the problem with a plug-in. (I think I have a problem with judging light and dark, particularly when yellow is present.) I am kind of partial to the composition with all the yellow in it. I stepped up to the 7100 from a D90. I've never had that size image to work with before. With my style of shooting and cropping I am loving it. Had a problem at first with a sticking mirror or lever at the lens mount which was repaired quickly under warranty. Link to comment
