I like the strong and sharp foreground with those ruff textures fading a way in tu the darkness and the sun rising, but still below the horizon. It same to me the light up there is the moon, and the sun just rising and still behind the horizon. Timing is excellent,, and a very clever composition. It is a good work. 7.

Cheers

Andrew,  Excellent image.  First you had the foresight to be at this site - looks like Devil's Golf Course to me - so early in the morning.  The vertical format works well and is unusual as this area is so vast that most people would photograph it horizontally.  Nice job.  I would straighten the horizon line; it dips down to the left ever so slightly.  Having been to Death Valley, I appreciate your accomplishment with this image.  Larry

Thanks for the comments and critique. This is just off the West Side Rd which is a little north of the Devils Golf Course road, but same stuff. I was playing with a rental Distagon 25mm f 2.8. Very pretty out there at dawn. In looking at this I wish I had gotten more of a close up for the foreground and then about 2/3 or 3/4 sky above. But...it gives me a reason to go back.
