Missed the morning light for a more traditional photo, but the shades of

blue/green/brown still caught my eye. But what will experienced landscape

photographers say about it?

As a semi-abstract, I think it works well.  The parallel lines, various shades of blue and green, and one partial white line come together in a pleasing way.  For an even more pronounced abstract, try removing the sky entirely.

I can't really add much more than Stephen, as my thoughts were exactly the same regarding the removal of the sky. It's a great abstract, yet it retains a waterside feel.  I like it!

. . . Stephen, Alf, and Ernest.  Constructive comments like yours are VERY helpful to me.  The suggestion to remove the sky now seems obvious (since it doesn't include the interest of lines or color gradations), and I'm asking myself why I couldn't have "seen" it before posting.  Thanks so much for your time.

My vision is different here, I would remove all the asymmetry in the bottom. If forced I would save the dark wave and possibly the white one, but as I said I should be forced.

I love this shot, and would neither remove the sky nor the earth. You titled this shot an "impressionistic ocean view" which is exactly what it is. If you were to focus purely on the sea then this would become an abstract shot that had little to do with impressionism or the ocean. For me this shot only works as well as it does due to the white streak, the breaking wave. It seems to ground the whole shot in the reality of an ocean view and prevents this shot becoming too abstract. Colour wise is acts as a nice point of neutrality which the other rich and saturated colours work off. Cheers

Roberto and Scott -- With your comments, I've now experienced how exciting it is to create a photo that generates a range of opinions.  For me, that's thrilling and fun and satisfying.  Thank you very much for your specific insights and for the time you gave to share them.
