Thank you Kathy. At this moment I was relaxed and not thinking about 'getting the image'. Quite often when I see a very unusual insect, I get excited and some of 'what I have learned' slips my mind. I must take more time to just 'breathe' and 'relax'. Often while handholding, I have 'held my breath', and Mike has encouraged me to take the shot once I have exhaled. I find when I practice that, I am less tense and my hands are more steady.

I appreciate your visit and sharing your encouraging thoughts, talk soon, Gail

Gail, In hitting a target at the rifle range, I was taught to use the bras method:

Breathe

Relax

Aim

Squeeze

What an eye-opener of an image! Its always a delight to see a great lens used to best effect. Such photographs always stand out.

I too have learnt a lot from Mike (and others on PN). His compendium of photographic knowledge and understanding is vast. Knowing one's equipment enhances one's pleasure...

Has Shaelyn visited this page? I'm sure she would be fascinated to read all this...

Wonderful clarity and detail!

If the eye are the windows to the soul, then you have penetrated those depths and seen beyond!

Of course there is a related saying too.  "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder"  : - )

Superb!

Warm Regards

Now I have not heard of that saying before, I will have to tell my husband! He will get a chuckle out of that one! Thanks Alf. I sure Shaelyn  will be just delighted to see all the little red veins in her eye that I normally don't ever see!

Always a treat when you stop by,

cheers for now, Gail

Well I do have to say, I do believe I would be still 'fumbling' with this lens if I had not had the opportunity to talk to Mike and get his advice, many written lessons and encouragement with how to build up my handholding skills. One would not usually think you have to train your arm and hand muscles but you do. And that is only the beginning! Shaelyn may not know this is posted. She would be fascinated, but I'm not too sure she would be impressed with me. See what I mentioned to Alf. She is 12 going on 14, sensitive and full of life. I recall being that age, such a difficult time, not quite a child, not nearly a woman. I won't even mention 'hormones'!! This was a good day, she was very relaxed. Mind you she always seems so happy when she is able to come and visit! many thanks for your input Rajat. I am glad you are 'learning' as well.

Very cool shot Gail. Sorry I missed your other shots but I was up in your neck of the woods this past week. Quebec City and Montreal. Loved it!!

Your genuine surprise on discovering the reflected details on the eye is well understood. The prominent domination of your attention -this beautiful, isolated detail of the expressive eye- could prevent anybody from noticing in-citu the interesting details revealed. Once  discovered, he attention is drawn back again to the obvious ,his expressive eye and the affection shown towards you.

many warm regards, and as always many grateful thanks for your abundant ,encouraging words expressed in your unparalleled way  you treat us with!

Hello Chris,

Always a great surprise when I see you have visited. I just noticed your image entered into the Wildlife Photo Contest and I must say it is an excellent capture. I will go back to have a better look after writing here. Your friendship here on PN has been much appreciated and I look forward to all your postings (actually, I think I'm a bit behind. I saw numerous photos that I had not commented on a week or so ago, you are on the top of my 'catch up' list).

All the best to you and your family always Chris, ;-) Gail

Actually you would have had a bit of a drive to get to me. If you crossed at Gananoque, you would go Northwest to get to Peterborough. I envy you. I have not been to Montreal since I was a child, and Quebec, never been. Must remedy that some time! Many thanks for dropping by Warren, I do hope you got in some good sightseeing. Wonderful places in Montreal and Old Quebec has been on my Wish List for years!!!

Hi Michael,

Yes, our eyes are true marvels, ones we take for granted until our vision starts to fade. The last few sets of glasses I have gotten, my prescription has changed but not drastically. It is hard to imagine, not being able to see. Those of us who do have our sight are truly blessed. Yet, I imagine those who are blind, have their own UNIQUE 'Window to the Soul'????

Sincere thanks for your visit Michael. ;-) Gail
