As always, I love your subject isolation in PP.  It is beautiful work.  But it is also very sad.  My local zoo has orangutans on exhibition much like this.  I always feel remorse for the great apes.  I get a true sense of feeling that they look upon us with some degree of disgust, hoping some day that they might be free again.  Unfortunately, "Protective Custody" is the only way they will survive, until we can get our act together.  Waiting, it is all they can do, I hope we will not be too late, it would be a shame.  Best regards from the early Fall hemisphere...

He seems elderly, with a gentle frailty about him Art. Always beautiful light in your compositions, the background is important but nicely  softened so that the Chimp is the who we are drawn to. Very nice work Art.

Thank you all very much.

This chimp was sitting quietly somewhat interested in me more so than his surroundings. He appeared to be an older chimp but again I cannot be sure of this. This was my first visit to Toronga zoo in Sydney so I was not familiar with the chimps. I plan on visiting again, soon, and using my already limited knowledge of them, to capture more dynamic/intimate images

This is hauntingly good PP work.  It holds a magnifying glass up to the negative effects that long-term captivity can have on an intelligent primate.

As compared to many of the images in this portfolio which tend to render the background black, I like the inclusion here of the surroundings. The post production has subdued the surrounding and focused attention on the chimp in a manner which, despite being evident, does not draw too much attention to the post production. I like the overall balance within the frame. Nicely done.

Zoos are one of my favorite places to be . . . at least well-funded and well-run zoos. The Taronga Zoo does a fine job. I've been there a couple of times. I've probably photographed a relative of this guy. And while I love the pose, the crispness and wonderful DOF, I'm not a fan of the color cast. The hairs on his head and chin are stark white. It's part of what makes a chimp a chimp. Different strokes . . .
