This is a great moment you have captured here. I like the use of a foreground element and the colors have a nice intensity.

For what it's worth, I would crop a portion of the top to be consistent with rule of thirds composition, but I can see that the upper sky does contribute some leading lines to the shot.

I also have a Sigma 10-20mm and I am very impressed with the performance, I only wish I had bought a newer FX format Sigma since I just upgraded to a Full format DSLR.

Keep traveling, we may cross paths someday, Jon.

Striking color.  I like how the fire emanates upward--a controlled burn.  Each portion of the photo has a little different statement, almost like a complex recipe with disparate parts melding and making something new.

The sky appears like an exotic coloured oriental fan, and the foreground driftwood completes the scene with a "bridge"

Exquisite colour and composition!

Sincere Compliments!

Many thanks and sorry for my late response. I was on a mini vacation in Miami, Florida and took a few images.

As usual, I'm late to this party but I echo all of the accolades above, including WOW.  A gorgeous scene, perfectly captured... Mike

Tony,

I am so proud of you.  I mean, I was before, but having received the honour of Photo of the day is just awesome.  Congratulations.  I could have easily picked out 'Embers Burn' as yours - it's distinctively you.  Your creative eye and talent do not disappoint.  This photo has many masterpieces within it and perfect composition and detail.  A sunset to remEMBER!

Cheers,

Dan

Congrats on your well-deserved "Photo of the Day" feature for this stunningly beautiful image! Gorgeous, and fascinating, sky/clouds "color show" dynamics –– seems there's a unique meteorological phenomenon you've revealed here ... skywatchers with some expertise would probably have a term for this, beyond "awesome". You must have been delighted to experience this! Cheers!

Many thanks for the extremely positive comments and ratings on this image. They are all appreciated.  The problem for me now is how to find another image like this but I suppose we are all looking for that moment and to be present with a camera.  All the very best,

PS I went down to that same location yesterday and the driftwood is not even there anymore much less the sky.

If I don't observe and experience lighting situation of a low laying sun, illuminating different layers of clouds, trowing shadows to each other, then I would have difficulty to understand how this can happen. Living at the 16th floor no building blocking my view to east-north and west,  a corner unit with glass all around, a big park below, I see the sun rising and as  setting all the time, and being out shooting, many time I'm lucky to get a sky, sometime  so abstract, I hesitating to post it, thinking, somebody my said, it is artificial. You captured this scenery with a perfect skill. I'm not to much for sunrise and sunset images, considering many of them as a kitsch, but, sometime if it is done with technic and artistry, they are beautiful. Sometime, it is to beautiful. This remind me of a famous photographer, standing in a beautiful place and even more beautiful sunset, and he decided, not to photograph it.

You have a wonderful portfolio.

Cheers.
