A stunning image that is nice and sharp.  I always have difficulty in getting close enough to photograph these birds.  Bravo for you.

Thanks for taking the time to view, comment/critique, rate and, allowing

me the opportunity to share!

I was positioned just below the Dam and he landed above me on a fence

a top one of the retaining walls. I cropped out the visible portion of the

fence at the bottom and some of the surrounding blue sky. Wish there

had been a few clouds but, I guess we take what we can get!

Thanks again,

Jim j.

I'm with Bill on this one, I only have to think about photographing one of these birds and they fly away.

Superb light, detail and definition. I wonder how a B & W version would look ?

Compliments & Best Regards

Hi Jim,

An excellent image, well shot.

Technically spot on with the lens settings.

I never tire of seeing or taking Nature shots.

Best Regards, Mike

Many thanks for your visits and encouraging comments and helpful critiques!

Bill & Alf, I know what you mean about "only thinking about photographing one of these guys and they fly away!" That's pretty much always been my experience too until I found this "feeding location below a dam!" Here, it seems that they are more concerned with their appetite than their fear of us humans!

They are concentrating below the Dam when the Corps of Engineers releases water from the lake above to feed on the injured fish that go through the turbines.

This particular bird seemed to get more used to my presence as the day went on. He/She kept getting closer and closer.

Mike:  Good information to know and thanks!

Again, Thank you all!

A wonderful capture Jim!!! Exceptional detail in the plumage, the face is so well 'seen'. I really like your chosen crop as well. I would have been thrilled to have obtained this capture!!!
