Beautiful winter scene! I really like the diagonals and stark shapes of the trees against the snow laden slopes.

I think its a real shame the trees in the foreground got clipped, but I can see you were shooting at the widest possible with that lens, so i guess it was either them or the sky, so you made the right choice.

Maybe a PP grad to the sky too, just to add a touch of contrast to the sky and upper slopes.

Very well done Latil!

Best Regards

Hi Alf,

Thank you very much for your comment. You're right about the foreground trees, I know I need a wide-angle lens, I just showed your comment to my wife, so that she understands that there's some kind of emergency. Despite this, I'll have to wait until my next birthday...

So what should I do with these trees ? I'm thinking about removing them from the scene, I'll try and come back with the result.

You're also right for the lack of contrats between the upper slopes and the sky, I'll correct this soon.

Best regards,

Gerald

Hello Latil

I'd agree with Alf on his comments. Your wife doesn't agree that getting a wide angle lens is an emergency, go figure ;) As for removing the trees, I'd vote for leaving them in. Taking them out would leave a rather large dead space in the foreground  and  you'd loose some of the sense of depth to the image. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for support in this difficult moment. :-)

Thank you also for your comment about the foreground trees. I'll try with and without to compare.

A very clever little bit of editing in the new version has made a great deal of difference. The subtle changes are very effective.

Very well done!

PS When your birthday comes around, try and convince your wife that the Nikkor 14 - 24 mm F2.8 G ED is the only one you can live with : - )

Worth every penny!

Hi Alf,

It's your critique that lead me to correct my image, and it's truly much better this way. Thank you for that !

Concerning the Nikkor 14-24, I regularily send advertisings about it to my wife, to test the subliminal impact.

Wait and see...

Have a nice day, regards

A truly magnificent scene and capture. If I ever see the revised version up for rating I will rate it highly.
