This is the very first image I shot with my Canon EOS 1000D. I am very

used to my FinePix S5000 (which I have used for 8 years - and still do)

and therefore I am very unfamiliar with the Canon. Suppose I have to

just keep on trying...

All comments and suggestions will be very much appreciated. Anyone

with specific help and suggestions on the Canon - please do not

hesitate. Thank you.

Hi Engela,

You are off to a great start.

A beautiful scene, well composed.

Technically, the use of the 55mm setting at F/5.6 is very good.

Like getting anything new or changed, patience and practice have always worked for me.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

Mike is so right Engela, and if you ever have a 'query' he is the one to ask! Mike has helped me so much with much of many of my 'questions' always there to suggest how I can achieve a better capture. I think this composition is LOVELY! It is simple, the degree of softness is so lovely with the combinaiton of the texture of the wall and the table. The lighting is also beautiful and delicate.

My first Digital Camera was a Fuji S5000 I got a lot of great captures with it. I especially enjoy Macro work. My Dad thought I was improving enough that he bought me a S9000 which I also liked very much. My biggest frustration at that time was getting the 'exacting tight focus' I was aiming for when I did my Macro's of flowers or insects. Fortunately for me I traded a few Limited Edition Prints for my Canon and Lenses back in 2008 with a Cousin who had no interest in Photography. This gave me my start, but I still struggle. It is the LEARNING of all the aspects of how the camera works, interacts with the lenses and settings. Mike has been a big help with that as well as my Dad. Keep it up, you can only get better!!!!

Thank you all for stopping by and for taking the time to comment.  I truely appreciate every comment.

Gail:  Yes, I am very fortunate to get lots of help from Mike.  Whenever I struggle with something, he has always been very willing to help.

Mike:  Thank you so much for all your help.  Life would surely be very dull without you on PN!

Dolf:  When I shot this image, it was the very first time that I held the Canon, and I had no idea of the capabilities of the camera and how it worked, etc.  I did no digital alterations (no sharpening, no contrast changes) afterwards.  Beginners luck, I suppose, because I have been struggling a lot with this camera ever since.

Kind regards

Engela

What beauty in such simplicity!

The flowers look like they could be situated on the sideboard of a country cottage. I really like the unpretentious backdrop and rustic feel of the image.  A great result with your new camera!

Compliments & Best Regards
