Nice picture, Trisha. The vignetting and blurring at the edges works very well in this case, focusing the eye on the tiny bench in the distance.

I like this image Trisha, it reminds me so much of how I have felt before. Isn't it great that there are 'benches'??? A destination perhaps, a place to rest a weary mind and body, when we are out trying to 'clear our minds', or 'gather' our thoughts when they are scrambled. I think most people could identify with this image. I like that the bench is the one thing that is more in focus and the rest more blurred. Reminds me of that 'state of mind'. We all 'visit' that place at one time or another. I think it is great that an image can actually 'speak' of a 'psychological-intangible' state.

JACK, GAIL and PATSY,

Thank you so much for your comments and opinions on this photo. It was my first venture out (actually my first attempt) with my new camera. I can't believe how much clearer this camera is than my point and shoot! However, the actual photo was, in my opinion, a little boring... nice and focused, but boring nonetheless. This bench sits at the top of the hill overlooking the park and trails; it appears so small and lonely from the bottom of the hill. I wanted to bring out that aspect so I experimented with the blur and vignette. I am happy you like it; thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Always good to hear from you! :)

I like taking photos of benches too and I really love how you placed your point of focus here.  I also find your entire portfolio very diverse and appealing.

Thanks for commenting on my photo.

Hi Trisha, I have a love of symmetry and this works so well for me. Really like the framing of the trees either side of the bench and the slight blurring of the foreground edges draws your attention to the bench. Really like the choice of B/W too! Best wishes. Sarah

First off, I'm jealous as hell that you got a new Nikon!

Second, it's a lovely pastoral type of image that invites contemplation.

Looks an inviting climb to the bench, and then sit there nicely, calmly relaxed till the sun sets in a blaze of colours.

And if I'm just dreaming this on rather dreary winter day, then this photo must the cause of such nice daydreams.

Lovely.

The bench situated between the aged trees for me represents a position in time, where one can contemplate and reflect. A place where the hustle and bustle becomes calm and where things begin to take their place in the world and make sense.

Great concept  I like it!

Best Regards

Trisha, The shallow depth of field works really well here to create the mood. The image is simple and well composed. the subject is very well isolated but still gives us room to move throughout the image, Well done and nice work.

Cheers Richard

Such solitariness.  The trees seem both comforting and threatening at the same time, blurred as they are.

That Bench! That Bench! It is such a powerful symbol for me both in a religious and physical sense. You can figure out the religious part but perhaps there is couple we just can't see. A powerful image indeed and congrats!
