The version immediately prior to this was a 5 exposure HDR that I felt

might have been overcooked and probably was. Here is the best single

exposure of the day. Please feel free to comment and critique,

appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Very good idea to use the available cloud to diffuse the strong sun light. The result allows a good perception of the prevailing light and with minimal blowing of the highlights.  I also like the way the water meanders back towards the reflected light.  And despite the B &W tones (which can often be percieved as cold) the warmth of this image is communicated really well.

Nicely done Joe!

Best Regards

Alf

PS I have just has a look at the HDR version and I have to say, this version is far superior.

Joseph, I think this is a big improvement.  Even though less detail can be seen in the foreground, the tones are so much better throughout, and the sky is vastly improved.  You might try a more limited HDR, perhaps just a couple of images, that will help add some light and detail to the foreground.  As Alf said, its the curving river through the frame that holds a lot of interest.
