A very hungry baby:) and very fragile baby...hope "ugly duckling" will soon grow in to a flying beauty. Fantastic photo.

Another one of your weird self portraits?

LOL.

Very provocative and engaging. I want to turn away but won't and it's really not so bad to hang around. Mystery in the shadows, attention to detail, eyes drawn to the spot they're supposed to be, focused used but not abused.

Very much your work, individual, unassuming, intriguing, un-pretty but with a photographic beauty.

This again is one of your best( I feel like an old creaky CD from too much use....LOL) even though I like the two butterflies as well... but this one is so very unusual with a  precise timing. It reminds me the E. MUNCH  SCREAM in mature! every detail works for me, including  the sepia tonality. I take it to my files.

I like the way this appears as an abstract at first glance -- sharp triangular forms, and the circle of an eye.... the moment it became apparent to me, it felt endearing and quite beautiful....There is a saying in Dutch ('mooi van lelijkheid'),  which translates into something like being 'beautiful for its ugliness'... The sepia tones add to a sense of drama and mystery. An intriguing & beautiful photo, Gordon.

I should remember to read titles, if not before then at least after I look at the photo. Coming back to this, because I was notified of followup comments, I noticed the title and now realize what it's a photo of. Earlier, I thought it was the head of a dead fish with its mouth wide open. To be honest, the knowledge of what this actually is doesn't much change my reaction to the photo or feelings about it, which is interesting in itself. It still has a kind of push-pull sort of beauty. But I thought you'd be amused at my initial thoughts and my utter city-boy mentality when it comes to the animal kingdom.

This is really an outstanding picture on many levels, Gordon. It has the precise sense of observation as a Durer print. You have always been good at delivering photos that seem both right and totally unexpected and this is certainly in that category. This will join several others of yours in my favorites.

It is quite odd that I react to any "baby" as cute, yet when I look objectively at this hatchling, I see nothing attractive about it. Yet, instinctively, I can't help but utter a heartfelt "awwww!"

Gord, You worked hard on this one, didn't you?! I'm first taken by the selective lighting. It's so very precisely illuminating only what needs to be. The coloration is (IMHO) perfect. To have this in color would be terribly distracting... well, it'd just be a whole different photo. As you've presented it it has wonderful detail, depth, and many possible meanings and/or messages. This is one of those images that just stands very tall and so very strong. Great work!

Warm regards,

David

Really refreshing view of nature that we seldom see here. The processing is outstanding (as we have come to expect from you). A truly amazing image more for it's artistic merits than it's quite fine story-telling ability. I am in awe.

I think this is so beautiful and touching! I read some of the comments and remarks on the bird being unattractive, ugly or hard to look at and I don't see it that way at all. I see beauty; a new life, innocence, joy and hope. A stunning photograph, to say the least. Thank you so much for sharing. :)
