jorge_fernandez3 1 Posted June 10, 2012 The old truck has special meaning for me as a similar one was part of my childhood 50 years ago in Cuba, my homeland. Best Regards. Link to comment

panayotis_papadopoulos 0 Posted June 11, 2012 How I love these beauties! I like particularly this diagonal prospect which adds a more dynamic feeling to the whole image. Good rendering to black and white. Good day my friend! Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted June 12, 2012 Many thanks for your interest I'm really pleased you like it..Best Regards AlfESBENI was a bit limited with the perspective, the small travel tripod I had with me wasn't very stable so I kept it at a short length and fortunately it kind of worked out ok. Many Thanks for your thoughtful comments.Best RegardsAlfJORGE It's very gratifying to read that the truck holds some nostalgic value for you, its quite remarkable the way vehicles can trigger memories of the past. Many Thanks Jorge!Best RegardsAlfKALLOLThank you for your interest and kind words, much appreciated!Best RegardsAlfPANAYOTIS It is interesting that you noted the diagonal perspective, I tried a number of ways to get an angle that would allow an appreciation of the whole vehicle, and this was the result. Sincere Thanks & Best RegardsAlf PATThese kind of opportunities seem to be getting somethng of a rarity, so yeah, I think your right I do owe my sister a debt of gratitude, I think I also owe her for lots more, mostly for just being my sister : - )Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts Pat. hstelljes 41 Posted June 13, 2012 Good Morning Alf, Just came across this finally. Exceptional detail on this image. I think the choice of B&W is perfect and the tones speak for themselves. Composition is spot on and I like the little touches of light and shade. Interesting and well done my friend. Take care.BR,Holger Link to comment

hamidfarzandian 0 Posted June 14, 2012 Very lovely shot and masterful processing/bw conversion. Traditionally, i used to see such type of abandoned cars with superwide angle, some degrees of distortion ( exaggerated dimensions ), and high contrast processing to impart and augment drama, but this one nicely broken the rules, giving a nice and pleasing "real" view of it with the same amount of drama. For me, its a very successful shot. Bravo.Hamid. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted June 14, 2012 Many Thanks for your interest and kind words!Best RegardsAlfHOLGERI'm really glad you like it. I wanted the tones to reflect the age and add a touch of nostalgia. I usually have a great deal of flexibility with composition as I carry a range of lenses that allow it. In this instance though I only had a 24 - 70mm and so I went with the wider end of the range, fortunately it seemed to work. Sincere Thanks & Best Regards AlfRUUDMany Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments. Best RegardsAlf ANABELAThank you so much, I appreciate your interest and comments. Best Regards Alf MARCO"Moody" yes indeed, thats what I was aiming for and its gratifying to read your kind comments.Best Regards Alf HAMIDYes I know the type of shot that you refer to and indeed some of them can be very effective. But in all honesty I didn't take my 14 - 24mm lens with me to France, its a fantastic lens, but such a weighty lump to travel with. And I guess the type od shot you refer to is a bit cliched too. So in retrospect I'm glad this was a bit different and really appreciate your views on it. Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf Link to comment
terrygilroy 0 Posted June 15, 2012 Glad you are going South, your Scottish shots have been making me feel totally inadaquate!Perhaps I shall have to start getting up early but retirement is such hard work. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted June 15, 2012 Good to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well. The hot weather doesn't suit me, I start to wilt : - ) So the good news is, I will be back to Scotland in autumn .......well I hope so anyway. There really isn't any place quite like it. As for retirement, I remember my father in law saying "I don''t know how I ever found the time to work"Cheers Terry! Alf Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted June 17, 2012 This one is quite a beauty. As others have said the tones are lovely and there is something about the shabby quality of the truck that makes it so compelling to look at. I see that you have been expanding into other genres besides landscape. Lucky for us to be able to appreciate the diversity of your talents. Hope all is well. Link to comment
engela 0 Posted June 18, 2012 I am always fascinated by images of old vehicles, and this one is no exception. Great tones, excellent execution in b&w. Kind regardsEngela Vermeulen Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted June 18, 2012 I think old trucks and vehicles are a bit like people, the older they get the more of thier character shows from the outside. I count myself as being very fortunate to find ths one. As for my diversification, I do like to explore different genres, but I feel like I am just touching the touching the edges at the moment, there is so much to learn, but the journey is most enjoyable. Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf ENGELA I think old vehicles holds a fascination for a wide range of people, there is so much character on show, and one can easilly get lost in the nostalgia, in a most enoyable way. I'm really pleased you like this oneMany Thanks & Best Regards Alf Link to comment
sarah_mcnulty 5 Posted June 20, 2012 Hi Alf. Poor truck but what an excellent photographic opportunity! You have done an excellent job in capturing the nostalgia and character of this poor relic! really lovely the B/W tones and lighting! Great work! All the best. Sarah. Link to comment
JimCowan 0 Posted October 15, 2012 Alf,I really like this photo. The truck takes on a caricature, something I would expect to find in a child's book, perhaps with a name such as 'thumpy dumper'. As others have said the range of tones is outstanding and this really speaks to the quality of your work. A lovely image!Jim Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted October 16, 2012 Sorry.......somehow I missed replying to this one.But yeah it looks like it had a hard life, every scratch and dent must have its own story to tell, I'd love to trace its history, find out all the details.......but I wouldn't know how to start. It wouldn't be as difficult if it was in the UK, but parked on a farm in the South of France presents a challenge to say the least. Glad you liked this one Sarah and thank you so much for your enthusiastic response!Best Regards Alf JIM I like that caricature analogy, I can see a series of books with "Thumpy Dumper" and his associate farm yard machines "Trippy Tractor" and "Hectic Harvester" having all kinds of adventures! Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback Jim, much appreciated! bosshogg 4 Posted July 5, 2013 I see that just about every member of Pnet has signed off on this one. It's a wonderful old buggy and you've more than done it justice. And the light is just so sweet. Great work. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted July 10, 2013 Not quite "every member" ..........well not until now : - )An unexpected treasure on a back road in the South of France, we whizzed past it at great speed and had to navigate our way back as I screamed "Stoppppp!" a bit too late. Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
