maranwilson 1 Posted April 11, 2012 Approaching localized tropical storm front photographed while sailing in French Polynesia. The colors are so vivid and out of this world at this location, but I think the black and white processing does a better job of portraying the drama as it unfolds in these impressive tropical clouds. Perhaps I'll post the color version in the future to see if others feel the same way or not. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted April 11, 2012 Maran, I agree with you regarding the use of B&W to focus more on the dynamics within the frame -- often beautiful colors can be distracting from such a message. The cloud here has a lot of visual interest, and I can just imagine what's going on in the center of that storm.I wonder if a larger context might be beneficial here. I'd like to see the top of the cloud, and showing more black sky around it can help emphasize the concentrated fury taking place within that single cloud system. Seeing a localized storm in a larger context with areas that are outside the storm might help us to appreciate the unique nature of that unsettled part of the frame. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted April 12, 2012 To Make my comments shorter, I agree with Stephen. I would include more of the sky, then the neutral sea. And to add more live, or interest to the composition, I would include ( or add ) a boat somewhere on the horizon. In this composition, somehow the picture is empty. The color? I used to see such a view, and know, the colors almost unbelievable, and the B&W was a very well thought out choice. To bad, to bad, we can't see the top of the cloud. Link to comment

joaodebarros 1 Posted April 12, 2012 Hi Maran! Clouds are always a unique show to my mind, and this photo is full of intensity! Yes, I would like to see it in colours! Good work, best regards! Link to comment
ellery 0 Posted April 12, 2012 I agree with Stephen about the composition. I think this 50/50 for me does not work as well? although it is a very great shot, the scene is amazing and I like the b/w... And this could be my screen at work (which sux) messing with me, but perhaps some processing work around the clouds to bring out a bit more contrast and detail? (again, my monitor at work STINKS, so ill check it again when I get home later perhaps). And it definately would add impact to have something in the foreground perhaps.... So basically I have nothing unique to say here....others have already said...you are welcome, lol :D Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted November 10, 2012 Beautiful clouds, standing alone. I combined two of your image to one to demonstrate the greatness of the place.Cheers. Link to comment
