Less red than my Observing Mono Lake; I set the WB to daylight. The

brilliant red "facial" cloud began breaking up minutes after it formed.

Thanks for looking.

The cloud is fantastic, and so is  the image. I would prefer more neutral sky, cloud formation, then a face. The image itself is  very nicely done, perfect composition and brilliant color. I was visiting the place, last november. Never get a sky like this. Lucky you.

I love this composition! interesting texture and my eye is drawn throughout. It looks like a glimpse of what our planet might have looked like milennia ago. very nice!

cheers!

Beautiful image, nice detail in the foreground.  I can see a bit of detail in the white cloud structure on the horizon but the camera is limited because of the range of light. But your eye can certainly see it while you are there so a bit more detail would be an enhancement to your image.  the camera limits what the eye can clearly see. Don't you agree, Metering over different areas and effectively blending these together would further enhance the image.  rek

Thanks everyone for your comments.  Richard, you are right that I likely could have done a better job in handling the huge range of light.  These spectacular red clouds lit up so unexpectedly and went so fast that I think I was concentrating too much on composition and variety of shots than proper metering and filtration.  Thanks for your observations.  Regards, Jeff

As I enter this comment I see that my Observing Mono Lake and this have the same number of ratings and the same rating of 5.19.  I think the lesson I learned from this comparison is that this one has better WB but the other has a nicer sky.  So, because I'm unable to alter the sky of this one, I ought to use the other as the WB is easily adjusted!  Thanks everyone for your input.  Regards, Jeff
