The redtail, like us is a creature of habit. He is a first year hawk without the skill of the adult, but has learned that the coots at the park are comparatively easy prey. He has made it a habit to hunt them just before dark in an area where they feed. I just positioned myself out of sight and waited, actually several times, until he came gliding down for the kill. Light was waning and coots were in the shade, thus the high iso. Actually in this instance the coot managed to escape and live another day.

Is not at all easy to catch something like this, your wait was rewarded, only compliments for this action moment.

Very wonderful action photo, I wonder that at ISO 4000 the photo is so sharp and almost without noise, the D3 seems a fantastic camera ( in the hands of a great photographer), ciao Giangiorgio

You did it again Monte! Great catch with 400mm at such high ISO but yet the image seems so nice and clear.  Congrats, TFS!

Spectacular catch of a spectacular near-catch.  Your knowledge and patience really paid off.

A fine shot brother Monte and certainly worth the 7 that I thought I gave it weeks ago...
